I've had this hawk nest in a tall pine in my back yard every year, a storm blew its nest out of the tree this year and they moved on. What's the name of this hawk?

Other pics with the back showing?

From the wing shape it belongs to the accipiter family of hawks. The Cooper's Hawk is a member of that family and is found in Louisiana. The back is Blue Grey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooper%27s_hawk the dark white bands on the tail are consistent with Cooper Hawk.

The one huge white band on its tail feathers seem to point to a broad-winged hawk. The Cooper's hawk would have several white bands on the tail feathers.

Nice shot! At first glance, it appears to be a Cooper's Hawk, but when you examine further I believe it is a Broad-winged Hawk. Two reasons: one, a Cooper's Hawk's wing tips are always rounded, your Hawk has wings that are more tapered at the ends. Second, a Cooper's Hawk has a banded tail, most common is three bands but can be as many as five, sometimes more. Your Hawk appears to have only one band which is consistent with most Broad-winged Hawks.

A Broad-winged Hawk and a Cooper's Hawk are both members of the same hawk family.

Actually, I think his name is Tom, middle initial A. A real sharp fellow, he is, cutting edge technology.
