I'm not sure what that means but my question to the forum is should I unload all of my film cameras? I have two Lieca bodies, Minolta CL body and several lenses. I'm sure I will get killed on resale but do I have a choice?

Well, you can do what I did....clean them and ceremoniously inter them to the bottom dresser drawer and wait until film makes a come back..

Film is starting to make come back now, especially B & W.

As Film is on the return - it may be a case of searching where best to unload them.....record players are quite expensive now thanks to Vinyl's return, not long ago they were worth nothing!

Why would you keep them?

Go to ebay and look up each model. Then go down the left column and click on "Sold items." That will show you how much people have paid recently.

This question is really about your ability to make a decision. Are you going you to use these cameras and shoot some film or not? Do you want to keep them for nostalgia's sake or not?

Do they have enough value for you to keep them or to sell them?

Only you can decide, but finding a good home for them ( yours or somebody else's) could be a good thing.

Of almost all film cameras and lenses, your collection will have retained the most value. Leica rangefinders still have a rabid following and with the advent of mirrorless systems, your lenses are much sought after - full frame coverage in a tidy package with a almost religious reputation. I think I remember reading once that Leitz sells out of all the lenses they produce each year, and those prices might raise your eyebrows. I think your stuff will continue to retain value if not increase. The only thing I would worry about with storage is fungus.

Unless you are in dire financial straits and need the fish, keep everything.
If you sell, you will someday wish you still had the stuff--especially the Leicas.

Not all film is dead. There are still schools that start teaching film in the beginning. They start by taking a manual camera with 12 or 24 shot roll of film. They learn to use the camera and to be selective on what they shoot (not fire 100 shots to get one keeper). I just gave away enough equipment to make up 5 dark rooms and a few older SLRs and lenses to a high school where they are starting up old school teaching. This is a good place to donate your older cameras. Most cameras now never get used or looked at again and the fungus grows making them useless to any one. I my self have over 300 film cameras (cheep hobby) and have over 175 on display. At this moment in time I have 49 Nikons. Want one of each. Large format is still trucking along as digital at this point can't compete.

You only have two choices here. Keep them, or unload them.

Record players got very expensive for a long time now at least since 2000 even though that time Vinyl didn't make a come back yet. But the record players had an advantage over film that their existing record collections are still playable while there were almost no new release for a long time. If there is no fresh film the film camera simply doesn't work.

I have started collecting film cameras and displaying them on shelves. They make great collectors items and also generate some interesting conversation. The older SLRs are so distinguished looking, each with their own personality. One of my favorites, in my small but personal collection, is a Minolta SRT 101 with a 50mm lens that my father gave me.

My old film cameras and even a few early digital cameras make up my personal "Old Camera Collection". The collection is on a shelf in the other room. The old 2 1/4 X 3 1/4 sits in the brown hard case beside the Nikon "F" and quite a few others. The memories are great but make up the almost total value of these relics. They will stay on the shelf and go out with the rest at The Tag Sale!!
