Hello to all, I have been enjoying this forum from the side lines for a year. Considering the climate in our country this is a polite informative, troll free format. I have a classic Tokina lens that needs attention, and Tokina USA just shrugs. I realize this has been out of production for 17 years. From what I have read this was the best, and first version of the original French made classic. Any recommendations other than using it for a paper weight, it needs a new Nikon camera mount. Thanks

In the old days 'Professional Camera Repair " would probably of handled it, if I were doing it I'd start at

Welcome to the forum. There are some camera gear that's too old to repair because of unavailable parts on hand. While lenses may be forever, repair parts are not. I hope the two recommended repair shops given you will be helpful. Good luck.

With the size of the membership I was hoping to find a needle in the hay stack. Or possibly a marriage of another unusable lens
Thanks

I recently had the card reader on my D700 repaired by United Camera and was very pleased with their service. My camera was repaired and back in my hands in less than a week after I shipped it to them.

Exactly what is wrong with the present mount?

So the lens was a sentimental pass along from a deceased relative who used Nikon. From what I can tell he dropped it on the mount and took it apart to replace and repair. Unfortunately the take off parts where thrown out by the clean up crew. I have the lens schematics
Thanks

You basically have two choices - cannibalise the mount from another (otherwise) identical lens, or adapt the mount from most any Nikkor. In the latter case you will lose autofocus, but a competent repairman should be able to drill and tap to match the new hole pattern so at least the lens would be useable. A Nikon AI, AIS or AF mount will be nearly the same otherwise. That lens is definitely worth saving. Good luck!

Your right where I am at, and cannibalize is my the first choice. Very strange how such a highly rated lens was pushed aside for what it currently is, oh well. I appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks

When you get the estimate for a repair, you may want to look into buy a new, used, or refurbished lens. You can sell your on ebay "For Parts."

Being a popular lens, there should be plenty of spare parts available from otherwise non-working donor lenses.......
