If they refurb do they consider the camera "new' and reset the shutter count? Just curious!

All of my Canon equipment have been purchased from the Canon Refurbished website. I did check the shutter counts on the two bodies and both were zero. The good thing about the Canon Refurbished site is that all the equipment carry a one year warranty, just as their new equipment does. The Canon representative told me over the phone that the equipment are returns from customers and over stocked by retailers. I have never had a problem. They don't have everything in stock, if you are looking for a particular body or lens, you just have to keep looking at their site. When you see it, order it. Good luck, you won't be disappointed.

I wish I could figure out how to find the shutter actuations. I'm curious how many I have on my 6D.

For $3.99 you can buy a program called "Shutter Count" which will tell you the shutter count of your 6D. Just google "Canon shutter count".

BHC had mentioned on page two of this thread, a lack of support for shutter count on newer Canon cameras and once I dug a little deeper, much of what was said was substantiated as fact. Even on "Shutter Count" further validation was conveyed.

"DIGIC II and dual DIGIC III cameras are not supported. For example, shutter count is not available for the original 5D (Mark I), the 1D Mark III, and the 1Ds Mark III. EOS M (mirrorless) models are also not supported. Newer cameras are not supported yet due to changes in Canon SDK."

I see little point purchasing a program when another programmer offers a similar product for no charge with the same camera support and features.

Canon EOS DIGITAL Info v1.4 (FREE)

EOSmsg 4.5 (v5 is now a paid app)
Shutter Count (now a paid app)

If anyone plans on paying for a Canon shutter count application, I'd highly suggest one checks to see if their camera is supported first. Otherwise, it might become a nightmare that could be prevented.

I've never ordered anything from Canon refurbished before. I need a crop sensor to carry around on my hikes and looking to get the 80D Refurbished. Anyone have any bad experiences getting refurbs?
Thanks.

Refurbs are my first choice. Never a problem (Nikon and Sony).

Don't worry about shutter count, you're never gonna wear it out.

My husband bought a refurbished Canon sx 60. The flash did not work so they told him to send it back and they sent him a brand new one.

No issues buying refurb cameras or lenses. I buy from Cameta and they offer a one year warranty on refurbs.
Refurbs are usually open boxes or early returns which are inspected and tested by the distributor to make sure everything is working to factory specs.
I never had a problem with refurb products.

I bought the 80D refurbished and also bought the 7D a few years ago and both refurbished from the Canon camera store on line and very satisfied with both. Same warranty as a new camera. I would recommend it refurbished very highly.....Rich

I have purchased a few refurbs from Canon. Last was the 70D and only had 21 clicks on it.
I have had good luck with them and will purchase another.
You also get the full warranty from Canon so you can't go wrong.
I wouldn't hesitate at all.

they internationally hide the count. The theory is if they allow the count to be found, unscrupulous people will turn them back. Much like speedometers on cars.

Internationally OR intentionally? I believe Canon shutter counts can be found in online programs (as with Nikon). Google Canon shutter count and see what comes up.

I have purchased several Refurbished products. The last being 6D and a short time later Canon added the one year warranty. Curious I called Canon service and they informed me that warranty was extended to my product. I have had nothing but great results with CS but if I don't get the answer that I request, I go to the next level of authority. The only problem that I have had with product was resolved for me even though it was out of warranty. I have saved thousands of dollars by using Canon's refurbished program and shopping their sales. I was first turned on to Refurbished when I got to shoot at a Canon in the Park event at YP/GT.
