I live just outside Richmond Va. and these dragon fly like bugs are very active near my house. They look similar to a Dragon Fly but only have two wings and are slightly smaller. I have lived here 60 years and never noticed one till now. Any ideas what it is?

Not sure, but I believe it to be a Damselfly.
Yes, damselflies hold their wings like this when resting and dragonflies have theirs pointing "out" from their body. Also, damselflies have that very narrow stick like body. I'm no expert, but pretty sure that's a damselfly. Nice photo!

Yes, a damselfly. Probably a Ebony Jewelwing.

And I think she's in distress.
Looks like an ebony jewelwing, which is a damselfly. This is a different species than the ones we have here in western Pennsylvania. They are very common.
