An evening at the southern tip of Florida in Everglades National Park. It was pretty windy which helped keep the mosquitoes at bay. I was out relatively early this night to catch the Milky Way rising above the horizon. The lights on the horizon are along hwy 1 which runs along the Florida Keys out to Key West which is just out of frame to the right of this image. The light streak on the right is an aircraft.
Three image composite panorama of the Milky Way from the southern Everglades. 23 June 2017
Each image was a 15 second exposure at ISO 6400

Striking.
I've never actually seen the milky way with my own eyes let alone photograph it.
Thanks for posting it.

Thanks Dirtpusher. Haven't tried that oil mix but of all the repellents I've found, Deep Woods Off works best. This particular night I didn't really need it although I still used it. I was there a couple of nights later in calm winds and even though I had sprayed myself as well as I could, the mosquitoes were as bad as I've ever seen anywhere...and that's saying something If I can find some peppermint oil maybe I'll give it a try.

Thanks JJ. Glad you liked it. You have something in common with about 80% of the population in the United States who live in areas too bright to see it. If you can find an area with moderately dark skies on a clear summer night, look up. Depending on how dark it is, you may see what appears to be a long narrow band of clouds stretching across the sky from south to north. The darker the sky, the more prominent it will be but that's the Milky Way. It's worth the trip to get away from city lights to see it if you can.
