Canon software problem

My anti-virus program (Kaspersky) deleted my Canon software apparently because it got infected some how. I have a clean installation disk but when I try to reinstall it, I get the error message that the operating system does not support the installation and I need some unspecified service pack. I'm trying to install Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk Ver.95.0 JEFIGSCRK and I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates installed. I've tried Microsoft on-line tech support and all I get in response to my question is nonsense that has nothing to do with my problem. Do any hogs know what service pack I need and how to get it?

Is there a download available for your camera and Win 10 at Canon? Just enter your model at:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/

Suggest you go to the Canon European site and download the latest Canon SW from there for your particular camera and OS. Here's the link for DPP (Digital Photo Professional 4.6), but there is other Canon SW (such as EOS remote or Cannon Connect) available from the Canon Europe site. I find their site more comprehensive and easier to navigate than the USA site, but they may have updated it since I looked last:

http://www.canonwatch.com/canon-digital-photo-professional-dpp-4-6-10-and-other-software-updated-to-support-eos-m6-rebel-t7i-and-eos-77d/

Btw, you'll often get an error if you try to run a 3rd party antivirus SW with Windows 10 built-in AV module.

I agree with TriX here. The European Canon site is often better than the USA site, although the USA one is much better than it was a while ago. I'm using the very latest Windows 10 update, and the Canon software is working just fine without any issues.

Good luck

After you get squared away with downloading and installing what Canon software you need, suggest your next step is uninstalling Kaspersky. Same goes for Norton's and/or McAfee. Modern OS don't benefit much by anti-virus software and, in fact, can provide a portal for virus. Most blogs recommend, if you insist on having something, that you go with Microsoft's free Windows Defender.

I completely agree with this. Kaspersky came on one of my computers. I constantly had problems with the computer freezing, with software not installing right, etc., until I removed it. Everything has worked fine since. I have since relied on Windows Defender (free) along with Malwarebytes (which is also free).

Kaspersky/McAfee/Norton tend to be more useless nowadays and two of the three have turned into complete memory hogs. Despite what the blogs say, I routinely have files from the internet try to intrude and ESET intercepts them without fail working with a very small footprint. Viruses aren't as much of a potential threat as they once were, although spyware/malware/scareware and trojans seem to have replaced them.

BTW often it's by faulty heuristic methods with these anti-virus software's packages that alert a user to a false positive.

Remove the Kaspersky and then install your canon software. I had Kaspersky and had nothing but problems with it and other software. I now use McAfee and haven't had any issues.

I am sorry but I have to say something...Suggesting that someone run Windows without virus protection is beyond crazy.....Windows defender is worthless...There are a few decent virus programs out there and if you spend just a few minutes with the setting you can make the virus program do what it is designed to do without it eating all your resources...As for the flagged installation. All you need to do is turn the protection off during the install...I will agree that Norton/Mcafee/kaperski are bloatware. I fix computers all day and I will tell you from experience that virus issues are getting far worse not better.

that is my two cents...feel free to ignore me :) Happy 4th of July folks

I'd get rid of the third party software. Next, try to install the software you have, if that fails, download the latest version from Canon. Or just go straight to downloading and the installing the latest version of the software you have. Then, install Microsoft Security Essentials. Remarkably, that is a very good product from MS and free. That's the only AV software I have used for the last 5 years or more. I've never had a problem. The commercially available AV programs have become so bloated they actually interfere with the operation of the computer.

I agree with JohnBear. I'm running Malwarebytes Premium and Eset and have had no problems. When I first loaded Win 10 I tried using Win Defender and wound up with a bad virus. That's when I went back to Malware and Eset.

This stuff can be complicated. I'm running the latest versions of Windows 10, Canon software, Windows defender, malwarebytes and a few other tools when I want to do a scan. No problems in years, so perhaps it is an individual set up or behavioral thing. The tech seems fine.
