Hey Bud..... I found your reply, just as you said, buried in the original message.... I've done that before.....
You said. . . . "I just read the probable cost and it will be at least $1000 more than I paid for my 6D and 24-105 f/4 L lens combo, so I will either keep my 6D or buy a 5D IV.
Bud"
My response, is close to the same regarding the cost and the 5D mk IV.
I do like the added Cross type focus points in the 6D. I heard it had an articulating back screen too. I really want to read more on the camera. I was hoping for more AF points, which it has, and I am hoping those points are spaced out further into the screen, which I don't know yet. I am confused why camera makers can't give us focus points that support the 'rule of thirds'. I was also hoping for dual card slots, which it does not seem to have.
Regarding focus points.... I tend to rely on the single center cross type focus point of the 6D. It's fast in almost all light conditions and very reliable. But when placing this point in the eye of the subject, I find that as much as a 3rd of the image above the head is useless and is cropped away. So the added focus points is a big plus. Looking back, I wished I had purchased the 5D mk iii for this very reason.
thanks for responding....
John

I have been waiting for this camera to be announced. I heard it may only have one card slot. A deal breaker for me. Also, will probably be very costly, especially with the 24-105 f4. Sorry I didn't switch to the Nikon D750 when it was on sale.

Released today body only $1999
It was announced this morning!

Steve, how much do you have invested into Canon glass? If all you have is the Canon body and the lens that came with it what's stopping you? Once you invest into glass for a certain brand you live with it and make the best of what you have. All brands work very well. The body will need upgrading much more often then good glass.

Agree! Not to heavily invested.

Just check out the many reviews online from people shooting with the Mark II!
I follow Canon USA on Twitter so I got to see the newest cameras with promo video. Nice! I have several hobbies which get pretty expensive very quickly, so I buy last year's models on sale. Happily, my camera can more than outshine and outpace my photographic skills right now but it's fun and inspiring to quickly learn and improve so that I can justify upgrading in a year or so.
I own the first generation 6D and have been very happy with it although there are a few shortcomings that this new 6D II version addresses.
Probably my biggest complaint about the first Generation 6D is the very basic Auto Focus. It only has a group of 9 AF points clustered around the center focus point. Only the center is cross-type. The new 6D II has 45 AF points and ALL are cross-type. While still not as impressive as the 65 all cross type AF points on my 7D Mark II or the new 5D Mark IV, 45 all cross type AF points is still a huge improvement and likely more than adequate for any of my needs.
The sensor is improved from 20 Meg Pixels to 26 Mega Pixels on the 6D II. No idea if we'll see a real difference unless printing very large prints and honestly I've been very happy with the overall performance of the sensor on my First Generation 6D. I'd be interested to see some side-by-side pictures between 6D and 6D II. I suspect (but don't know) the new sensor will have better low light capability (the 6D I is pretty darn good) and probably better dynamic range (again the 6D isn't bad)
The shooting speed is also improved from 4.5 Frames Per Second to 6.5 Frames Per second. Still not as impressive as the 10 FPS that my 7D II is capable of, but still a noticeable and welcome improvement.
Also, the new 6D II has a fully articulating rear screen - a first for a Canon full frame camera I think. Canon has several crop-sensor cameras that have articulating screens, but I think this is the first time that they have put such a screen on a Full Frame camera. It is also a touch screen which I personally have mixed feelings about. The price for this new 6D II is $1999. The next step up is the Canon 5D Mark IV with admittedly more capability (4k video vs 1080p video for one) but it is $3500. By comparison, my 7D Mark II, which is a crop-frame camera, was $1800 when it came out, so $2K for a very capable Full Frame seems like a reasonable price point given the capabilities.
Personally, while I'm not suffering from GAS yet, I could see myself selling the 6D and getting this new 6D Mk II before I could see myself forking out $3500 for the 5D Mark IV. (Not that the 5D IV isn't an amazing camera)
