redtailed close up shots

I was at the USC medical center in Los Angeles the other day. A friend of mine was going to have ear surgery. I walked across the street to this park while they did the procedure.. I was walking along this path as I walked under this tree I noticed that the squirrels were being very active. Running all around the tree branches... I looked behind me and what do I see? A beautiful redtailed hawk just sitting there. I am guessing 12' - 15' away and in the shade of the tree. It's the closest I have been to a raptor in the wild that wasn't injured or flwe. He didn't seem disturbed by my presence so I snapped a few photos... He was not camera shy in the least.. the photo of me with him in the background was taken with my cell phone... Also the wild parrots where noisy as usual.. except the selfie, all hawk photos were taken with a canon 7D mark II 1/320. f5.6, iso 1250, 400mm and the parrots were 1/1600. f5.6, iso400, 400mm

Fantastic images, turtlepond! Shots of the redtailed hawk are incredible. I love the pretty parrot. Turtlepond is a neat name for the forum, but I'm sure it's not what you're called; would
you satisfy my curiosity and tell me your name? I don't remember seeing any of your posts before.

Hi, my name is Jody Picconi. I love taking photos of wildlife and nature. I've been posting on UHH for a few years now. The nickname turtlepond is from a golf course where I was the superintendent. I'm glad you liked the photos. Getting that close was pretty cool. You should check out my last posting a few days ago. I watched a Cooper's hawk take down his breakfast.

Thanks, Jody. I'll try to find your Cooper's Hawk picture. It would help if you told me the date it was posted. 😊

Nice work on all of these--you didn't mention the man, but that's a great close-up of him, too.
