What is a new camera going to do for you? It wont take a better picture. If most of the photographers on this site would understand that the photographer takes the picture, not the camera. If you could get a world renown photographer to take pictures with your oldest camera, you might be amazed that the camera could take such fantastic photographs. Most of you photographers want the newest just to have it and brag to everyone about your new super camera that will do nothing more than what you now have.

You might try making a bid on Greentoe and see if someone takes the bait.

Seasonal marketing is nothing new. It's quite common. Best time to buy camera that you "must have" is after the upgrade is released.

That's the reason I still am using my 7d and did not upgrade to the 7dll

I have been lusting after a Nikon D500, and am making a well informed choice that's what I want. I have a D5500, and have had a D7000. A couple of weeks ago there were sales all over the internet for Nikon D500 plus camera grip for $ 1750 or so. I was waiting for some consulting work bucks I had coming in to make the purchase. The bucks have shown up, but the D500 price has jumped back to closer to $ 2K, and the camera grip is about $ 375 in reputable places. In the experience of the group, have I just missed an opportunity, or will the Nikon D500 + Grip package show up again on sale in the ballpark that was much more favorable? I guess I am asking if in UHH reader experience there are seasonal waxings and wanings of the price of camera equipment?

Refurbs should start showing up soon. IMHO they are the best deal.

As in my post on the other thread I intend to use my camera for life unless it breaks. Thinking about what a new camera does for me I could only think of a better sensor but that's it. I don't care for better AF as I often focus manually. I don't care about anything to do with metering. I don't care about anything to do with EVF as I don't want no mirrorless. I don't care about anything about VR or IS. So really I don't really care what a new camera can do.

The one thing that I find helpful in the newer cameras is better low light results. As for the other things you mentioned, I lived for years without them and did alright, but like power steering, power brakes, etc, I do enjoy some of the new stuff.

Twice a year on Nikon lenses. And just about 1-2 weeks before Christmas a push on several Nikon camera models. So, about 3 times a year.

Nikon dropped camera prices and added a free Nikon battery grip during the winter holiday season and again before a Father's Day. The company seems to have the promotions when gifts are bought for men.

That's been my observation as well. I would expect another round of promotions during the Christmas season.

If you aren't in a big hurry, they are very likely to have appealing sales in November for the start of the holiday season.

I agree, working in the trade has taught me the sales are timed for peak gift-giving sales at Father's Day and holiday season.
