This response in no way answered my question. If you're not sure what my question was, here it is again "...can I pay for just the months when I want to use the program?" BTW, the correct answer, whatever it is, will not depend upon why I asked the question.
A definitive, but unofficial, NO! They clearly state that the payments are based on a yearly fee and thy're being kind enough to allow monthly payment. It is independent of usage.

I pay once a year. That way I don't have to worry about it and they send a reminder when it's time to renew.

No. It's a monthly subscription that is automatically deducted from whatever account you choose.

Yes. You also need to have your computer connected to the internet periodically to validate current status, but the software runs locally on your computer. It is simply a subscription payment method such as your monthly telephone or energy bills, or any other periodic payment method, but it is not usage dependent. Just like 'buying' software it is a right to use license, not ownership, just a different payment method. It isn't metered in the way that telephone or energy is, it's more city property taxes, you pay whether or not anyone lives in the property.

That would be like asking your bank if you can skip payments when you are on vacation since you are not using your house.
My bank (credit union) has a "Take the summer off" plan. You can skip payments for the summer months.

Can I pay one month; skip (not pay) for a month or two then pay for another month.
In other words can I pay for just the months when I want to use the program?
No! Just like you cant skip a credit card bill because you didn't use the card. When you agree to the plan, it is for the cumulative price of $9.99 (or what ever plan you choose) times 12 months. If you were to purchase the software straight out, they wouldn't discount it because you ONLY were going to use it 3 or 4 days a month.

When you sign up, you provide a credit card, which is automatically charged every month for a year, and if you don't CANCEL your subscription before it rolls over, you're on the hook for another year! It's all about the money!!!
There is a free 30 day trial if you're not sure if you want the full package at first, but that's the only option that I know about.
Their photography post processing software isn't like some pay as you go cell phone services.
It sounds like you're just a weekend warrior who's not really serious about the art of photography, or you wouldn't have asked the question in the first place!

Thank you for the first part of your response. As to the last part ...
You have NO IDEA why I asked the question and WHY I asked will not affect the answer.
I'm sure Adobe can care less how many times you use the program. It's $10.00 a month period .
I had it and cancelled it after 10 months. They deleted my subscription and deducted the 2 remaining months from my credit card. So, the term is really for one year, billed monthly, and renewed automatically if not cancelled.

No. Just kike a car, do you make payments if you don't drive it?
Besides, they extract if from your credit card.
I found Photoshop on ebay that you can purchase for less than a year of renting it.
