Leopard on Guard

Though a somewhat lightweight in the big cat family, Leopards are immensely strong. They regularly drag their kill (mostly Impala) into the security of a suitable tree in order to prevent it being stolen by other animals. They then visit it to eat over several days without the fear of losing it to a scavenger.... very often Hyenas.

Though appearing sleepy, this Leopard had an Impala carcass in a nearby tree and was actually very alert to any movement and on guard duty between meals.

Nice shot. Cats, even fuzzballs at home, never really sleep. There's always part of their consciousness ready to react.
