I worked at Delco, battery.

We made batteries for Sears to Sears speck,
We made Delco battery to Delco specks.

Every factory is a job shop, and ever job is done as requested,

Camera brands demand higher specks,

True, but it's more like this:
Nikon says we have this much space, and we need this capacity at this voltage. What can you do, Sanyo?
Sanyo writes the specs and makes the proposal.
Sanyo and Nikon agree on a spec and a price.
The price is based on whether or nor Sanyo can sell the SAME battery on the open market to a variety of re-branders.
If Nikon insists on an exclusive, guess which way the price would go.
The only difference is in the test procedure and the results.
That's how it works.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using third party batteries in a Canon D77?
I have read many discussions on this topic here. I was convinced that I was going to buy a Wasabi extra battery. Then I went online to purchase and saw many negative reviews from people using in a D77. I hate the thoughts of spending the money on a Canon battery however I also don't want to ruin my camera.
Thank you very much for any help.

Read this article, and then try research on the particular battery you are considering:

No. When we had camera shops, I used to attend all the manufacturers' presentations I could. You know, the "open house" things that they all put on. My experience was with Showcase Photo and Video in Atlanta, now suddenly out of business but a big store with lots of pro gear.
That information came from both a Nikon rep and an Olympus district manager on different occasions.

Sure, they change cell suppliers. Did you notice that the housings and circuit boards are identical?

The test results are voltage, and length of time of the charge.

This is determined by the plates, and the components,
'We use to add glass mats to the grids to make them stronger, we can keep the same size and make the case thinner..

We can build to a standard. Or a price....we built to a price with Sears and Rat Shack..

I was a component tech.not a sales rep...in my early days....

Third party batteries are a viable alternative in most cases...

HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure the 77D uses LP-E17, which is a fairly new battery design that the third party manufacturers haven't really sorted out cloning yet.

I saw similar problems when Canon first introduced the LP-E6 some years ago.... and avoided the 3rd party clones at that time. Now, many years later, it appears that those manufacturers have figured out how to make LP-E6 that work just as well as the OEM Canon batteries. With some prior battery types (Canon BP-511, BP-511A and BP-512) I used both OEM Canon and far, far less expensive 3rd party side-by-side and saw virtually no difference in performance.

So as of right now, when it comes to LP-E17, I think I'd stick with the Canon OEM.... but a year or two from now there might be some good alternatives.

Incidentally, someone posted a photo of an LP-E17 that they'd just purchased and it said right on it "Made by Sony Corporation"!

Ask yourself: "Am I feeling lucky." You spent a lot of money for the camera, why go cheap when getting cards or batteries. My experience is that third party batteries and off brand cards fail much, much more often. Your only going to buy a good extra battery once. Why not get one that you know will work with your camera now and in the future?

Not with that model but have used various generics with a 10D and 7D for a long time now with absolutely no problems with any of the 9 ones I have. That is since 2003.

I've been using them in my Canon 60D for a couple of years with no problems or complaints.

My Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 came with a "Panasonic Lumix battery pack" and a second battery with these markings: "Polaroid PLBTPABLC12. Is this second battery an OK battery? I have used it only once and it seemed to have the same duration as the Lumix -- but for how long?
