When reading reviews about newly released camera models, I occasionally see the word "venerable" being used to describe its predecessor. One example would be the Nikon D300s (which as we know was replaced by the D500), in which the reviewer used the word "venerable" in his mention of the D300s. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes venerable as ":old and respected :valued and respected because of old age, long use, etc." Would you also agree about the D300s as being deemed venerable? Or, from your experience, what other camera models come to mind that you feel could possibly fall in this exclusive category?

OMG yes--the Canon F1. I'm proud to own one of these rugged masterpieces, which works perfectly after all these years. I remember in the 1970's it was Canon's prestige offering, going for about $800 without a lens/body only. Would you believe I bought mine five years ago at a yard sale, with leather case and a Canon 1.4 FD lens, for $10 ? No on wants film cameras any more, it seems....

Another camera that has yet to be mentioned. Polaroid. A landmark. The first instant camera. A classic.
By a landslide, the Speed Graphic.

All of the above, plus the Mamiya 6, and Mamiya RB67, and Pentax 67.
leica m4 and m6 bodies are not venerable as thousands of them are in constant use. the same applies to the mamiya 6 and 7 bodies.
venerable might mean my 1926 I.C.A. Tropical 7x5 plate camera which is in constant use by me.
What a great idea for a thread!
OK, here goes. Biased, personal, and hopefully provocative:
Olympus OM1; Argus C3; Nikkormat FTn; Minox B; Pentax Spotmatic; and who can forget the iconic venerable iPhone, now sitting so proudly on display in the Smithsonian?
Leica M3 stands out as a classic film camera

My old Canon A-1 35mm film camera, or my first camera, the Brownie. Now that's venerable.
I agree and I still have them.
