Hi
I am seriously considering getting Affinity editing software. I can not figure out from the website if it has a file management system. Can someone who uses the program please tell me if it does have such a feature, and if so, how do you like it. If it does not, what do you use for file management. Thank you to all who respond.

Mac users can use Photos, which comes with all Macs. Affinity Photo is more editor than anything else.

Affinity does not come with a file management system, I use Lightroom for this. I did the Affinity for Windows trial, but found the app lacking many of the features I use in Photoshop and Lightroom. I also found several irritating bugs, all of which were recorded on the Affinity user forum. Over 5000 bugs, queries and problems as yet not addressed. (March 2017) are or were reported in the forum.

Affinity are marketing the software as a direct competitor to Photoshop, but they have a long way to go before it catches up. As it stands, there are some really good features, but I recommend taking the 10 day trial before committing to Affinity as your main editor.

Affinity Photo to date, does not have a file manager, however, if you are shooting RAW the new upgrade 2017.5 on On1 RAW does have a cataloging and indexing system that looks quite good. You can download a copy free to try it out: https://www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/

Thanks WayneT, I took a quick look. Interesting, it might be what I am looking for.

I haven't specifically looked at Affinity but there are lots of new apps which you should consider. Im a Lightroom user on a mac but have a number of plugins. In recent weeks some of those plugins have released new apps which are both image management (like Lightroom and Aperature) and image processing with their own RAW processors. My fav is On1 Raw which has some growing issues but is working quickly to fix them. It is very intuitive and fast with lots of processing options. It is non-destructive and keeps its actions in small files without affecting the orginal. This is huge when if I use Lightroom or PS to process I get huge files. Another app is from MacPhun and only works on MAC. It is less intuitive to me but has a smaller learning curve than Lightroom. It too has its own RAW processor but the downsize for me is it creates propriatary files that are freaking huge (like 500 mb). Until they fix that (they say they are working on it) it is a no go for me. I already have 8 tb of drives on my mac. Cheap or not 500 mb files fill up a drive really fast.

I appreciate your detailed information Ednsb. I will take a close look at On1 Raw, it seems to be the PP I'm looking for. Need to move on from Elements, I upgraded from 6 to 15 and am very disappointed in it. Elements 6 was way better than the newer version.

I've been using Affinity photo since its Windows release. I have found it to be incredibly good. I'm a newbie and I switched from Elements.

Someone here mentioned bugs comma but I have not encountered any in my working with it. I do plan to check out the forum to see what the bugs are, but as long as it works for me I don't really care.

MacPhun has just ported their Luminar to Windows and have released a new version for the Mac. Faster and with smaller side files than before. They have a 15 day trial offer.

Affinity Photo has reduced its price in the UK by £10.00. (a 20% reduction). I do agree Affinity beats Elements on most levels, but is still behind in comparisons to the full Photoshop.

The price of Affinity was low, now it is almost incredible; when version 1.6 is launched which I hope will address many of the problems and nit-picks, I will certainly look again and probably also look at Affinity Designer to complete the suite.

This is the first time I have ever seen anything cheaper in the UK than in the States.
