I don't want to be picky but your nice photo is not of a NeNe but some goose that is much bigger. Still a great shot and you captured a neat expression.
This is a NeNe.

Sorry you are wrong I lived on Maui for over 7 years and have seen many of these they are the state bird of Hawaii, there are many like the picture you posted looks like the one on wikipedia, and there are those who are a bit more colorful, the females are smaller but still a decent size this was a close up of him so he may look larger to you than he is but rest assured he is a NENe and is pretty well known as he frequents this beach(Po'olenalena). If you really want a good chance to see a few of them the area inside Haleakala National Park(the section above Kula) is a great place as well as south west of Hana, this is where our property is but not as colorful or big as goose on the mainland. We are moving back home to build on our property hopefully this late fall, cant wait to get back to the water and those Maui breezes some call the tradewinds. Thanks for looking.

Sorry to doubt you. I took that picture on Kauai. I go to the Islands every year and ride my bicycle up Haleakala and see the NeNe's up by the visitor center and other places. Been doing that for 25 years and always see the geese look as the picture I took. No Wikipedia shot. I guess what throws me is the fact that I have never seen on with a red bill. Since they are descended form Canada geese, they tend to look like them. Take care and enjoy Maui. We will be there in January.

Will let you know when I get over there you might contact me and we could shoot somewhere. I know the bill does throw one off will send a side shot later this evening from the side he looks like those up top but the orange beak is a bit different, I have seen a couple with color in the beak but for the most part they are black or brownish.
I used the wiki reference for comparison, sorry if it came across as brash.
