Rancho Santa Margarita lake is a man made lake in the community of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. It offers the residents to circle the lake with a meandering path. Recently I learned about having something in the foreground of a landscape that the viewer can focus on. These rocks help frame the lower half of the photo and give it interest. Please download this image.
I think you are absolutely correct to have the rocks in the foreground. Foreground tells a story about this cove and what it looks like from the homes looking back toward you. If the rocks weren't there you might think you were on a river. I was surprised to see how sharp in focus the foreground rocks and the distant homes were, wonderful. My one worry would be the movement of the clouds similar to another post I commented on. But I think I know how I would fix it because this is a worthy photo. I would look for the most properly exposed picture in you group and make a one color HDR and try and make it as close to this in you cloud area. I then would simply replace your sky with that new single shot HDR for sky. Now go around the nehborhood and sell the prints.
