I bought two Nikon D810 cameras cameras a few months ago with the intention of shooting weddings once again, but since then, I decided not to. I dont know whether or not hold on to the second unused camera is a good idea or not because of possible detioration. other than the batteries is there a problem with keeping it or shoud I sell it? I really don't need two cameras.

I have a D5200 that I stuck in the closet when I bought my D750 a few years ago. Got it out recently, charges the battery and used it. On a shoot - work as well as when it was new. I now keep both with me on most shoots.

I once met a pro photographer, some time ago, who did Weddings, and owned two Canon 5D Mark 3s. This was before the Mark 4 was released. I asked him why he had two camera bodies. He said in case one fails on him. That made sense to me. I take a pocket camera as a backup to my DSLR. However, since you don't do weddings anymore, I see no reason, IMO to have two full frame D810s. I would sell it, and get a refurbished D7200, as a second backup camera body, and use whatever FX lenses you have already to use on it.

The best camera I ever owned. If you are going to sell list it here it would go quickly if the price is right. But to answer your question. That is a personal question, would depend on what type of shooting you plan to do. For example, would a need for quick chance to a wide angle lens be needed when shooting with a telephoto. I really hate to change lens in the field as that is how the sensor get fouled specially when near the ocean. It is your call...

Any more questions?
I would keep the second one only if you want/need to be able to use a second lens without changing. Even then I would sell one of the D810's while you can still recover most of the cost and get a DX body (D7200 or D500) for more flexibility.

If you don't carry around that second camera all the time, they why have it. It will never be worth more tomorrow that it is today. Sell it. Tomorrow there will be something with more bells and whistles. Yes I do carry my old a65 with me when I shoot with my a99ll professionally. I still have my old Maxxum 5D which I use when I shoot only for Email photos because it does minimal 540K image size and the others don't go that low. Now my Father would have said that you need 2 of everything, just to be on the safe side. It is all a matter of what you can afford. Happy shooting

That is what I would do. An 810 and a Df---very appealing.

I have a Nikon D500 and an Olympus EM1 mark II and use both in tandem. In the summer I have a 180mm macro attached to my D500 and a 300mm + or - a 1.4 TC attached to my EM1.2. The macro takes care of insects and the EM1.2 takes care of birds in flight and insects which are difficult to get close to. When there are no insects about I attach a Nikkor 200 - 500mm or Nikkor 300mm + or - to the D500 and set one camera up for perched birds and the other for birds in flight. Works for me.

I use one FF camera and one cropped sensor camera. The FF for landscape and the cropped sensor for wildlife. If it was me, and it's not, I would sell the D810 WHILE IT IS STILL CURRENT, and buy a D500 with a 200-500 f5.6 lens for wildlife. But what do I know?

It is for you to decide. You are the photographer.
