I would recommend the 24-105mm. Good for crop and full frame.

Totally agree use it all the time on my 7D.

Weight ... consider the weight of the zooms. if your walks around town are around ten to fifteen minutes than the weight of the zooms to 300 will not matter much. If you are talking about hard day or all day excursions you will regret that heavy lens in a few days, after the novelty wears off. go for the 18- 135.

That's exactly why I rented the 150-600 Tamron, Sigma C, and Sigma Sport. Could I spend all day walking around 4,400 acres in the Ramona Grasslands or the 1,800 acres of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park? I determined that I could, and hand-carrying (no neck or shoulder straps), handheld pictures only (no tripods or monopods). I did note that the Sigma Sport, all metal, got extremely hot in the San Diego sun, making it very unpleasant to lug around all day, and I missed a few pictures later in the day because the camera and zoom were just too hot to hold.

Full frame or crop sensor? I recommend the 24-105 or the 18-135 glass, depending upon sensor size and desired image quality.

He didn't list a 24-105. He listed a 24-205

My friend has a Canon d80 with the 18-135 and tamron 16-300. I also have the tamron 16-300 on a Sony camera.
We both just LOVE the tamron lens !! But each to his own.

Actually he did, he said he had a 60D. and I'm with Antonio, the 15-85 is an excellent walkaround exhibiting characteristics to a L" lens shared on by a 17-55 2.8 in an APS-C format.

I have a Tamron 28-300 for my Canon T3 and I agree that it is great for most shots, but it is also true that its weight begins to get tiresome on a day long shoot or an extended vacation. Canon makes some great, and inexpensive light weight lenses, 10-18, 18-55, and 55-250, but then you find you are constantly switching lenses. The 28-300 eliminates much of this, but it is no lightweight, and lugging it gets tiresome. I also have a Canon 35-80 lightweight, which I find is useful as a light duty walkaround. I doubt if there is a lens that does it all.

I would REALLY like a 16-300 f/2.8 Macro weather resistant (WR) that is only 3" long... oh, and fast focus with great IQ. Otherwise, I will stay with what I got; a 15, 27-75, and 100mm in 35mm equiv all f2.8

Ken, I'm completely unfamiliar with Canon or Tamron products. However, I've had a 28~300 on my D700 and, now, D800e 98% of the time, since purchasing that lens about 2-1/2 years ago. It's quite versatile and not difficult to carry either in a camera bag or over the shoulder.

Me too ... but I'm thinking that 18-135 might come pretty close.
