From The Telegraph....

J K Rowling and others have hit out at the New York Times for claiming the UK is 'reeling' after the terror attacks in Manchester and London Bridge.

Many have pointed out that London and the rest of the UK are mourning their dead but not "reeling" and that life is going on as usual.

Some have said that to "reel" and create an atmosphere of fear is what the terrorists want, and that to say we are "cowed" or "reeling" is letting them win.

JK Rowling tweeted. "The thugs who mowed down innocent people would love to think of the UK 'reeling' but it isn't. Don't confuse grief with lack of courage."

Please take extra care.....

PS After just "eight" minutes from initial emergency call, the three terrorists were shot down and killed.

Yes, what a shame! If all Brits were armed, they would be much safer, just like people in the United States.

"In the United Kingdom, in the most recent year for which I have data (2011), the gun death rate from all causes was 0.23 per 100,000. That works out to about 145 in 2011.
In the United States, for the year 2014, the gun death rate from all causes was 10.54 per 100,000. That works out to 33,612 in 2014."

You are quite right jerry, we have more than our fair share of idiots in this country, and the last thing we want is those idiots getting their hands on firearms (although knife crime especially among the young is on the increase). I went to our nearest big city (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) last tuesday on the Train, and on the platform as we got off were two armed police officers, you could see passengers warily eyeing them up simply because most Brits have never seen real weapons before and I think it unnerves most people to see our police on the streets carrying assault guns!!

Thank GOD our citizens realize the role of weapons in our lives. If not, we may very well occupy our time on this planet bowing to a Queen

I watched an interesting series about English police responding to 999 calls. In one situation, they called out armed police. The presenter said that (These are rough figures.) in ten years, the armed police had been called out twenty-six times, but they had never fired a shot.

I would imagine 99.5% of the British population haven't bowed to the Queen (including me) because we haven't met her!!

Sir,

You are the one who copied what you imagine to be news worthy quote by a woman who is the author of fantasy books. Do you really believe that JK Rowling is in touch with the common folk of the UK. She and her family live in the Blackford are of Edinburgh and when they are not there, they spend time at their palatial estate in the countryside of Perthshire. Her net worth is in the neighborhood of 1 Billion Dollars (US)

Since you live in Canada and rise every morning bathing in the security that the United States of America provides you, I would have more respect for the man that country calls President.

I always relish posters who bad mouth someone or something from the safety of their computer keyboard. Dedo or Dildo or whatever you name is - you are a coward.
I see you live in NY - I'm close by in NJ - I would love to stop by and meet you someday so that you can wet your pants like little child.

Now that is over, I apologize to the fine folks who use this forum for what it was meant. Hopefully HH does not ban me.
