I am a beginning photographer (retired and this is new hobby) and have a new Nikon D7200 with an 18/140 MM lens. I am looking for a basic, easy to understand, photography course that will help me begin to understand not only my new camera, but will help me graduate from Auto Mode to a more sophisticated use of what all this camera will do. I am presently in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia while a new home is being built near Raleigh/Durham in North Carolina. Will be moving there early October. I prefer a live, hands on course but will take anything I can get now....HELP!

Check out "meetup" photography classes in your area. Google it
Linda.com is an interesting company. They started a business of making photography classes on VHS tape. They migrated to the internet and grew. About 18 months ago they were acquired by Linkedin for a billion. Then Microsoft bought Linkedin so, I guess you can say Linda.com is a Microsoft company.
Lynda.com's stock in trade is to develop courses taught by experts in their field. Their thousands of courses cover a wide range. But, photography has always been a primary area of focus. Many public libraries, including mine, offer no-charge access. If that does not work, for $25 a month you have access to everything they offer.
A trial period is free. You might look at this one:
https://www.lynda.com/Photography-Night-Low-Light-tutorials/Introduction-Photography/376379-2.htmlUsing Lynda.com I've learned Photoshop Elements from Jan Kabili, video editing from Steve Grisetti, was introduced to Photoshop CC with Julieanne Kost and Ben Long. There are Lightroom courses too.
Learning new stuff can be an addition.
I have subscribed to "Kelby One" on-line training for around $140 - $200/year and they have excellent courses from beginner to advanced. In a year for $200 you can watch literally 100's of very good courses. You can also buy individual courses from Udemy.com which also has a broad range of on-line courses. If you want to spend more there is "The New Your Institute of Photography" which will take you through all the aspects of photography. But these are all on-line.

First thing to do is get Understanding Exposure by Gary Peterson. Then a book about the 7200. When you shoot in auto take note of the setting that the camera chooses. Write them down. Then experiment with the camera in shutter priority and then in apature priority. Dont worry about mistakes (we all make them), thats what delete is for. The more you shoot the better you will get. You are building a new house, what better opportunity to practice. You Tube and Google have tutorials about almost any thing you can think of bout the D7200, Good luck and have fun. Shoot, shoot and then shoot some more.

One-week course at Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, MT. Whole week is manual mode. Great and fun instructors. Loved the course.

Check out courses on CreativeLive.
Whatever course you take supplement it with practice practice practice. When I got my D7000 I watched the CD and still use Program mode most of the time. It was their recommendation and has worked well for my kind of snap shots. And if you want to use flash, be sure to get a TTL compatible flash and learn how to use it with your your camera set to Manual mode.

Start with a copy of Understanding Exposure by Peterson. Best of luck.
The Meetup Group in Raleigh is called the Triangle Photography Club. I belong though haven't gone as Raleigh is still 50 minutes from me. I would say to look on CreativeLive for a beginner course. Youtube has always been helpful for me when I really need to know something fast.

I would recommend Creative Live's courses, and specifically the course on your camera model taught by John Greengo. He is excellent and goes into great detail on all of the features and functions of the 7200. I also highly recommend John's "Fundamentals of Photography" class to build your understanding of both the technical and creative sides of photography. Creative Live has a wonderful curriculum for all skill levels for reasonable prices, and you can see their daily "on air" broadcasts for free! I have purchased a few courses outright but have watched many, many courses for free. Great stuff. I also echo those who have mentioned Bryan Petersen's "Understanding Exposure." Enjoy your new hobby and your retirement!
Look up stunning digital photography by Tony Northrop. Lot's of detail for beginners. Good reading.
