Nikon L330 "Remove lens cap" error message

Each time I turn the Nikon L330 camera on, the lens extends then retracts several times after which I get a message "turn the camera off, remove the lens cap, and turn the camera on". The lens cap is not on the camera. I cannot access the menu or any other functions until the camera turns itself off after a few minutes. Has anyone experienced this problem, or have a possible solution before I send it in for repair?

Have you tried a reboot. Remove battery, install a fully charged battery, reset camera to original specs

Right. Also, turn the camera on and hold down the shutter button for ten seconds - with the battery removed.

Let us know how this turns out.
