Some good answers here. My wife wanted a smaller camera. Got her the Sony a6000. She loves it. I shoot with the Nikon D500. Love it but sometimes for work taking pictures of our AV Integration installs I grab the a6000. Do light and easy to use and not that expensive.
I recently got a Tamron 18-200mm lens for mine - from KEH. Very nice lens.
Leica C- I shot a magazine cover with mine. Excellent backup to my Leica M7,M8,and Nikon FE and F100.
Small enough to always be with you.
Cheers
There are a few Android phones that shoot RAW, And I believe it's also possible on an iPhone with a third party app, OTOH, the OP might still want a compact "real" camera.

ok - only 12 mp - but still not bad as a backup camera.
Very good zoom. cant beat a Leica lens.
View finder !!! what slim camera has that.
Full functionality.
LESS than 1 inch thick. Maybe even less than 3/4 thick
Less than $600
Isn't that unit the same as the Panasonic Lumix LF1? The "Panny" brand might fetch a lower price. (just guessing.).
Have used SONY RX100 iii for ten months. Shoots RAW and has features equivalent to many full sized digital bodies. Excellent performance. Now $748 at Amazon.
I use a Canon S95 - it does a pretty good job for me.
Although more than 1" thick, I carry a Sony RX100m3 in its case in my front jeans pocket.
Also, an iPhone. I think the new ones can save raw photos. On my iPhone 6s+, I use the ProCamera app which saves in jpg, tiff and DNG formats. No small camera has everything that high-quality big camera have. I suggest you rank the qualities you want/need. Example: RAW, sensor quality, lens quality, focal lengths, size, viewfinder, price, etc. Then, Google. You should be able to quickly reduce your options to only a few.

I'm considering a back up camera, and would like for it to capture RAW images, and be thinner than 1". Possible? What has your experience been? And thanks.
1" thin or less and shoots RAW, all for less than $1K? Here you go:
Samsung NX Mini
There are numerous cameras available with what you want but are around 1.5" thin.

I also had a S95. When it failed on me, I bought a refurb S100. Then got another for the wife's daughter. It's my dedicated travel backup. Too bad that a Canon disco tuned the line in favor of the bigger sensor G series. Very good and extremely pocketable, gps or wifi, shoots raw.
Ricoh GR. An amazing camera! It is like a part of your body and takes excellent pictures. It is my "back up" and I carry it everywhere with me.
