To the Hogs,
I am eager to get and use this software. I know that Nikon has stopped supporting it but I would like to have a version anyway.
Question 1: From what I can find out from Adobe (which isn't much) it seems that Elements will not support it as a Plugin. Can I use it as a stand alone program and move a photo into it and back into Elements when done?
Question 2: I know it is available free on line but it appears I have to go to the Publisher's site for registration and confirmation of a valid email address. How do I find out the Publisher's address?
Question 3: How do I find an Internet site that still sells a version of the software? At Amazon, all versions are 'unavailable.'
Thanks for any help.

Nik was bought by google. Google used the parts they wanted and then offered the entire suite for free. You don't buy it anymore. All you do is find the site, download it and install it. Everything you need to know is here:
https://www.google.com/nikcollection/ Adobe never "supported" any plugins. Plugin makers take responcibility. In this case, Nik says they supported installations on Photshop Elements from version 9 through 13. The only way you'll find out if it works is try it.

Question 1 is a little tricky, a plugin is a small program designed to do a single task given to it by the host program.
What the host program does is make a copy of the photo in tif, png, or jpeg format and use that as an argument for the plugin.
On a mac at least
create a copy of your photo in elements and save it on the desktop (this copy is going to be destroyed so don't do this with an original)
open applications in finder and locate silverefx.
pick up your photo (copy) and drag it onto the silverefx plugin in finder.
after a few seconds silverfx will open with your photo loaded
do what you want to do to it in silverefx
hit save
Open your photo (copy) in elements and you will now see it is black & white.

The Gradual filter is excellent and easy to use....
Don't know why they have it split up into different suites....

Nik is free to download right now from Google. Just Rember, NIK is not being supported or upgraded anymore by Google. You may want instead to look at Topaz plug-ins or ON1
I use it on Elements 14...no
Issues at all
I also use it as a plug-in on Elements 14 with no problems at all.

me too!
The only part of the suite that can't be used in Elements is HDR Pro2; it is a stand alone program.

I agree - I use Elements 14 and NIK works very well with it. NIK is a lazy person's (I'm VERY lazy!) tool for editing that fits my style.
Thank you all for your help.
I love the Hogs

I just tried it in Windows 10. It works! Amazing. No host program needed at all!

But you are best using a copy not the original as it will overwrite the file it is given.
it's very much like a command line program (> program_name and argument). So very old but new :)
