Considering upgrading to the 7200 from the 7000. Primary use is high school age baseball. Thoughts on if its worth the upgrade.
What do you expect from the 7200 that your 7000 is NOT doing for you??
Better low light, sharper images.
The lens and how well you use your camera to shoot sports will make the biggest diffrence, both should work well.
8 more megapixels. 16 vs 24. You can get a refurbished D7200 from Nikon USA on a Memorial Day Weekend Special that ends in 2 days or so. A 10% extra reduction. The D7200 is the second best Nikon DX camera. Next to the D500. I can't yet vouch for the upcoming D7500. Which has some unacceptable features stated by many hoggers.
There won't be a significant difference between the D7000 and D7200. I've rented the D7200 and although it's an outstanding camera, there won't be a noticeable difference. I have a D7000 and a D500. The D500 definitely has superior AF performance. The Nikon D5 and D500 are the first two Nikon DSLR cameras to have a separate, dedicated processor for the autofocus system. The D500 can also shoot through the flicker of sodium-vapor lighting and its autofocus will work down to -4EV.
If you Know how to use the camera, the upgrade is worth it. Better ISO handling, you can take bracket shoots in HDR, Higher pixel count is a Huge Plus to name a few.....Have both cameras and you see the difference in the photos. I do macro, wildlife and landscapes. Now if you don't know how to use a camera then no upgrade will help.....
Both are excellent cameras. For sports.. I started with the D7000, then the D750 and now the D5. I did not realize the shots I was missing with the slower FPS, so if there is any option for you to get into a D500 in the near future I would hold out for it.
Just my two cents.
Quick answer.. the 7200 is the better camera. The 7200 has 8 more mp. Better low light. The key to basketball is 2.8 glass or better. 24-70 and 70-200. I have shot in those types of venues for years.
I have the D7000 (recently given to my daughter), D7100, D7200 and the D500. Each of the cameras are a step up in features from the earliest to the latest. You would find that the D7200 handles higher ISO better than the D7000 which might be important for late evening sports shooting or basketball court. There are a host of features in the D7200 that may help you and the links that Jerry provided may help you decide.
Hold out for the D500....

Why make an incremental jump when an exponential leap is available?
