How Do I configure my camera....
I am using a Nikon D5500 camera, with a T-ringmount adaptor. Also, there are both, a 1.25 in. telescope mount adaptor, which has provision for installing an eye piece, and a short telescope mount adaptor. When I remove the lens and install the T-ring, I get a "lens not attached" error msg. The 'scope in use is a Celestron 70mm refractor given to me. Any direction available will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Nikon's, but try putting it on Manual mode.

Hi Clint, Welcome to madness.
I don't often T-mount my D3300 on my telescope. But if I recollect correctly, I do like Brian suggested and use Manual Mode.
None others work.
The T-adapter doesn't have the connections for the camera bodies brain like our lenses do. So we have to resort to doing manual settings.
Also, there are things like a wireless remote, or an Intervalometer, you may want to use to control the release. Reason being, if you touch the camera/telescope you get motion blur.
So a delayed release in the camera setting (2 seconds works good), and when doing star shots you need longer exposures, and higher ISO settings.
The delayed release allows your camera to settle after the mirror jumps up for the shot. Also you can help avoid that by using Live View, so the mirror stays up out of the way (and doesn't activate).
A bit more here from my Googling...

My 80 mm refractor can do double duty that way. So you can play day or night.

I shoot with Sony, and there is a setting in the menu to allow the camera to shoot when there is no lens attached. When using the T-ring/adapter, there is no communication back to the camera, so it thinks that there is no lens attached.
Don't know if Nikon has some similar setting.

Brian is right you have to put the camera setup in manual. You can adjust the focus, ISO and shutter speed. Use the Live Mode to focus with the + button magnifying your star.

Thanks, all, I'm going to attempt these suggestions and will post any results. I used to live in that state when I worked for McDonald Douglas in Long Beach, we lived in Bellflower.

Welcome to the world of "up" photography! Lots of good folks here! You have been given good advice - if you run into any issues with your camera, PM me...I am a Nikon user too. I would suggest buying
Backyard EOS for Nikon software. You attach your camera with a USB cable and control the camera from your laptop....everything from framing, focusing, and shooting your images . I am certain the 5500 is supported but double check their cams that are supported to be sure.
