Looking for a new monitor(27"+) for photo processing. I'm not getting old, but my eyes are! I've been doing a little research and found that 4K systems are much less expensive than 5K. Would appreciate any specific recommendations from the forum participants. I'd like to pay hundreds instead of thousands. Thx, Tim

Even at 30 inch plus a 4k monitor will still display text too small for old eyes

27" monitor is a good size. Sometimes I wish I had a bigger one, but space constraints prevent that. Mine is a Dell UltraSharp, IPS monitor. It is factory-calibrated so ready to go with editing photos. I still use a Spyder calibration device to make sure it maintains its color calibration. Regardless of whether it is your eyes or the monitor size that is the problem, the nice thing is that if your editing program lets you greatly magnify the image, you will be pixel-peeping with many of us! And the size of the monitor lets you retain a good view of a portion of the magnified image.

I am sure others will have different recommendations for you to consider. There are quite a few good monitors for photo processing! Do some research on the recommended monitors to help you make your final decision.

If you are not seeing as well these days, then a 4K or 5K display is exactly what you don't want. You're better off with a high definition screen - 1920x1280, or proportionately higher if you get a bigger screen, like 2560×1440 for a 27" display. Text and system promps are going to be tiny, and the font scalability is not perfect nor universal. Many applications are behind the curve on that. The problem is that you are going to have a do a little searching to find a standard resolution display that has a minimum of 8 bit color and supports 100% sRGB color space, considered the entry level spec for photo editing. Maybe this $450 display is worth a look:

I just bought a 27" LG (LG27UD68). I use this as my 3rd and finishing screen as it really is a fantastic screen to do post processing on especially finishing for print. It holds 99% of sRGB and it's pre calibrated. So far I have not had to calibrate it, my colors are coming out very true. This is also an IPS screen that will hold it's color well and gives you a much better angle of view. Yes, as Gene stated the print can get very small but that can be adjusted in many programs and some software (especially add on soft ware to PS) will not play well with the 4K. I have the Dell SE2717HX on a couple of computers. Nice monitor at a nice price.

If you get a 4k monitor be sure you have a video card(s) that can handle 4k and it has a display port interface. I have 2 EVGA 1080GTX video cards running in SLI mode connected to a Dell UltraSharp 4k UP3216Q 31.5" Screen LCD Monitor. This is an outstanding setup.

Good point, I run a Nvidia 1060 to handle mine. It can handle up to 4 screens with one card.

Why would anyone buy an sRGB monitor for photo editing in this day and age? And you can't use HDMI either. Not calibrating is nuts.

Looks like they're going to the next model. Still have one left at Amazon, good price: https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UD58-B-27-Inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B01IRQAYPE/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1495150371&sr=1-3&keywords=lg27ud68

If they send all their work to commercial labs for printing sRGB is the colorspace to be in.
