I bought a canon m3 several months ago. My reason for staying with Canon , is I already have a slew of there lenses! I was wanting to not carry so much weight when Hiking and backpacking! I have yet to put to real test, but so far impressed with what shots I have taken so far! I am just hoping the durability is still there? I am sure the cameras will improve, they always do! I am still trying to learn all the functions! The touch screen has been hard to get used to for me! Time will tell In two more years I am retireing, and relocating from Illinois to northern Idaho! Then I will truley test things out!

On this site an others, I often read that only the weight of the camera matters, as the size and weight of the (full-frame) lens does not change. Do you know how much weight you saved with the M3 body vs. one of Canon's small lightweight DSLR's?

But now the Fuji Q menu is navigated with a little "joystick" nubbin, so it is super fast, and you can do it without ever taking your eye from the viewfinder. With the combination of external controls and this new convenience, I can understand why people like Wedding Photographers are gravitating to Fuji. So light, so fast, so ergonomic, so accurate and such luscious skin tones. My poor Nikons are sitting in boxes or in my camera chest of drawers. Every now and then I pick up the 5500 and try to use it, and get frustrated because I have to use either the quirky touch menu or go through the labyrinthine camera body menu to control anything. So i put it back on the desk and grab the Fuji. Poor 5500 has a layer of dust now.

Thank you for relaying that first-hand experience with the new camera(s), Cat ~ I've not touched one of the new "big" X-cameras (w/joystick), as I don't really want to become dissatisfied with my recently acquired "poor man's Leica (wannabe)". The X-E2 doesn't get much love within the Fujifilm cult (or press), but, I find it fascinating and fun; as my beloved Sony's don't have the two or three features that drove my eBay purchase (nor do they enjoy Fujifilm's faithful firmware upgrades). _Van

Only about 9 ounces! But a Half a pound backpacking is allot! This is a m3 compared to a Rebel xti, batterys installed! Not huge for day to day but backpacking it adds up. I weighed bodies only! I would not take my heavier full size lenses backpacking so would be closer to a pound or more depending on lens of course!

Nope, I didn't know that (I'm the OP)!
Now all I have to do is figure out what it is!

Huh? I find this forum super useful. Sure everyone has opinions (IMHO all forums are like this). Some posts are pretty awesome -- you just have to be able to recognize when the opinion is super subjective data versus the useful data. UHH has taught me a lot.

I've kinda-sorta concluded that posts like KAW's are not really about UHH, nor about the forum contributors. Apparently, the KAW's of the world had some "issues" before they ever discovered "the Hog".

The UHH forum is actually IMHO pretty mellow. I went at it in a post with someone a month or two ago, and later the person sent me a private email to apologize. I was on a few YouTube forums a few weeks ago, on some pretty controversial forum topics, and it was like going in for a 10 round fight. Sometimes these are "fun" -- however if you are going to throw punches you'd better be able to take them as well. The real key -- is realizing that most of what gets posted on forums are people opinions -- some of the opinions are good and some are not so good. You have to be able to filter the information.

I once saw part of a video by someone complaining about forums in general -- and how nasty he thought they were. My comment is -- hey not everyone is going to agree with your opinion. They are just opinions -- Get over it. :-)

[quote=crphoto8]Thanks to everybody for your comments, they're very helpful. A couple of additional comments - <snip> 3) A big advantage of FF is in wide angle coverage. I went to Central America recently and was the only photographer in our group that could handle the full width of churches interiors. Yes, I know about panorama stitching but it's handy if you can do it all in one image. <snip> [end quote]

Panasonic and Fuji both have very good extreme wide zooms: The Lumix Lens is 7-14 (14-28 ffEq) and the Fujinon is 10-24 (15-36 ffEq) I own them both and they are great lenses - how wide do you want, anyway?

Agree. My Olympus 7-14 f2.8 is about as wide as I'd want to go.
