Another good edit pkg is ON1 2017. It can be stand-alone or PS CC 2017 plug-in. I have used it each way. Switching modules within the software sometimes causes an unwanted program closure. Very Annoying!!

I love Topaz B&W Effects 2 with PSE 13. What I like most is the wide range of color filters as well as the ability to lighten or darken individual colors. The local adjustments module is also great which allows you to dodge or burn selectively as well as smooth or sharpen detail selectively. I like occasionally bringing back colo in my B&W conversions and this is very easy with the local adjustments color brush. The tutorials and webinars are really good from Topaz as well. Here are 2 particularly good videos on B&W Effects which are on youtube:

The two that I use most when I want b&w are Tri-x and HP-5.
Seriously though, I've had great results with Silver Efex.

Topaz and ON1. Both offer numerous presets as well as the ability to add an almost infite number of tweeks and adjustments.

I continue to defend to the death my Picasa program. It makes a conversion to B&W very easy and has tools to
increase contrast and add "pop" to my photos.

I haven't used Picasa at all. Will have to look into that. Thanks for replying I do appreciate it.

My favorite is Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), combined with Photoshop. ACR has more filter options than PS, then can go into PS for further refinements including cropping and adding some NIK Structure, then back to ACR for spot adjustments and sharpening. I have the NIK plugs in but like ACR better than NIK SilverEffects.

I have never used Camera Raw (ACR) to do a conversion. Thanks for the suggestion, I do appreciate it.

Adobe Camera Raw offers a black-and-white conversion process, too. I use it along with other methods, sometimes to suit my mood or my desire to try another avenue in photography.

Yes, the response above yours says the same. I will have to try it. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate it.
