Welcome to our forum!
Thanks for the links. I totally agree with the author's assessment. I do not like monthly payments. I have PS6 and LR6, and I'll never spend another cent on Adobe products. There are enough free and lower-priced alternatives.
I have had Lightroom LR6 on my mac for a while now and just subscribed to the CC bundle to get Photoshop on my mac for a job I am working on . I only downloaded loaded PS and did not down load the cloud version the LR thinking I would lose the LR I OWN if I cancel my subscription next year .. is this a smart move ? ... ps I own CS ( old version of PS ) its on my PC any one have thoughts on whether I should load the Cloud version of Lightroom or stay with LR6
I just returned from a week at Texas School for Professional Photographers in Dallas. We had 60 instructors, 1,042 attendees from 45 states and 7 countries. With one exception LR/Photoshop was the editing program of choice. There was talk of NIK as a plug-in and some discussion of Luminar. The exception was Russ Harrington, whose son does his editing. He uses CaptureOne.

Like any article on this topic, it has it's biasness. Some people rent their house or lease cars, rather then own them. That does not make them evil but a choice. Like it or not, it is solid product and the primary tool for photography in the industry. If your total driving force is the price then jump on the free or lower priced if they fill your needs. As long as they keep adding function the gap between free/cheap will widen.
IMHO $10/Mo. for those two products is chump change. When Photoshop was hundreds of dollars, that was expensive and why the gimps etc came alive. Now the two, is a bloody steal. How soon we forget.
That article is 4 years old, contains inaccurate info, and is completely moot since the CC plan had been a wild success.

That statement is very true. A lot of younger photographers who never shot with film don't remember the money spent on film and processing fees or chemicals and equipment if we processed our own film. The $10 a month I'm paying for processing today is nothing compared to what I had to pay out for film and chemicals.

At the top, it says it was updated in March. Then I noticed the comment dates are very old.
If it were not for the CC plan at $10 a month, I would never have had the personal thrill of learning Photoshop. I rent Lightroom for about the price of a hamburger and get Photoshop for free. Photoshop can be used like a plug in for incredible object removal, spot healing and background control.
Something rarely mentioned on UHH is the additional Lightroom mobile features that come with the $10 plan. Most here are "traditional" camera photographers. But we can't escape the usefulness of smart phones. Among the many things LR mobile can do is put your personal favorites on your phone so that you too can show them to people.
Regarding price, you can elect an "annual" rental that can be sometimes on sale and purchase from a New York store. It will reduce the actual out of pocket cost by about 25%.
I'm very sorry to hear this is an old article. I just received it this week and I read the date on the article saying it was an updated version. I do feel that his feelings toward Adobe still have some merit, but I'm not here to make enemies. This was one of my
late father's favorite sites and I've been reading the daily articles for at least two years now. I was never inclined to jump in
before and now I feel like I made a mistake. I'm so sorry.

You did not make a mistake by posting. The point of an online forum is to discuss issues, opinions, etc. Please do not let this, or any other discussion, turn you away.
FWIW, I am an admitted Adobe fan. My favorite Adobe product is actually Premiere Elements and you can't rent it! My second favorite is Lightroom followed by Photoshop. Because I enjoy them so much, I tend to defend Adobe where I can. Full disclosure is that a long time and favorite young friend works their!
The monthly fee for the year is half the price of an annual upgrade.
And there's plenty to restrain Adobe from jacking up the price - when you sell a package, you get the cash upfront; when you lease it by the month, you'd better ensure the value/cost ratio stays attractive, or lose your subscriber base!

Don't be sorry about posting this article. It was originally written when Adobe decided to stop selling PS, with the last full version being CS6. The article was accurate regarding pricing of the Creative Cloud when it was first written. Adobe has since dropped its monthly subscription prices as many people thought what they were charging monthly was too high. Photography Life website has been updating older articles, and any article that they do update are all marked "Updated on... ". You will come across bias and personal feelings towards all things photographic here on UHH also, thats just the way it is on any forum such as this, as well as on websites like PL and the countless other photography websites out there. Don't get discouraged by others personal views, and try not to take offense if someone responds negatively to something you post. Everyone has their own personal feelings, whether it is fellow Hogs responding here or someone on a website doing a review of cameras, lenses, software, or other gear. PL is my favorite photography website as well. I have been a follower back when it was called "The Mansurovs", before they changed the name to Photography Life. Their gear reviews are top notch, they have many different tutorials and instructional articles there as well.
Keep posting and responding on here. And welcome to UHH.

You should go ahead and download LR CC. You are paying for it, and will get all the most current updates. I cannot imagine how you could lose your LR6 unless you remove it from your computer. To confirm and remove doubts, contact Adobe Customer Service and ask them.
