The tiny house movement is pretty interesting, for many people it will be the only way they can actually own their own home. My wife and I live in an 800 sq ft home that is pretty energy efficient, but I don't think I would be comfortable in a much smaller home.

that's very good for two people, you need places where you can be apart in the home.... I am trying a solo experiment in the jungle, 108 sq ft on a really long extension cord, but that's with an external toilet/shower... and it's Hawaii, so...

My place is pretty efficient. Nothing goes to waste. We have a few cattle, some chickens, dogs and a garden. What we don't eat goes to the dogs, bones fat, etc, what the dogs don't eat goes the the chickens, and what the chickens don't eat goes to the garden. The chickens do a great job of keeping down the bugs and when I clean the chicken coop all that goes into a compost pile for the garden.
We heat with wood, and in the last 12 years I have not had to cut down any trees for fire wood, I just clean up the down trees from the winter and so far it has been enough.
We have 5 Hereford cows and my neighbor raises Angus cattle, for about 3 months each year he has to separate his bull from the young heifers so he brings the bull to my place. I keep his bull for him and his bull takes care of my cows. I have 5 calves a year which provided enough money for taxes, feed, fertilizer, a steer for the table and some extra money for incidentals.
I have bees that polinate the place and provide about 80 to 100 pounds of honey each year, I keep some and trade some with my neighbors.
We live very well on very little money, and best of all, we are happy.
There is a lot of tiny house stuff on YouTube. Some of them are incredibly creative. You can really simplify your life with one.

The first thoughts of many others would be inexpensive composting toilets.
This is nothing but a fad. Most are not on owned land, rather as squatters or on leased land and that rarely figures into the living costs.
Good luck with the Tinies, but I prefer a real home. And good luck your resale.

The problem is that not everyone can afford a "real home" some folks just have to do the best they can with what they have.

That's what happens when you learn to live with 2% GDP growth and flat wages and have no idea why. Watch, the next 18 months of leadership to see how to provide opportunity.
Yes this (tiny houses) is a fad and a bunch of poor decisions.

I have every confidence in President Trump, the thing that bothers me is how violent and hateful the opposition has become.

Boy howdy! Especially after the last eight years.
