I'm using PS 14 but it opens almost immediately on my desktop. It makes me wonder how old your laptop is. Just something to think about.

I'm recently retired and loving learning about photography. I've taken over 10,000 pictures in 3 years of retirement and now I'm trying to organize them into slide shows of reasonable lengths. I have Photoshop elements 14 (which takes forever to open up and use) and Windows 10 "Photos" on my laptop. I'm looking for an easy to use program that will allow me to copy and paste or click and drop a photo into an album that I can then rearrange the sequence and add an occasional title to the photo. This was easy to do when I was young an using slides but it is giving me a fit with digital photos. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Adobe Lightroom will do this and much more for you. If you sign up for the monthly program you will also get Photoshop, which opens quickly.

For slideshows I'm a big fan of Windows Live Photo Gallery. It is downloadable from Microsoft as well as a bunch of other places that will load you up with a lot of adware such as cnet, softonic, etc. I'd get it from Microsoft.com if you can figure out how to do that. It expands your images slightly and then pans and zooms around in each image making them look more like a movie before doing a nice fade to the next image. Put a group of images in a folder, go to that folder, right click on an image and select "Windows Live Photo Gallery" on an image and then click on "slide show" and your done. If you want to make a standalone show on a cd or whatever, it will compile it for you. You might be able to get it here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/result.aspx?q=Windows+Live+Photo+Gallery+download+for+Windows+10&form=MSHOME

I use Microsoft's Movie Maker. Great results, and it's free with a quite simple learning curve.

Look at ProShow Gold, very user friendly. Also a lot of fun to us Every!

I STRONGLY agree with this recommendation. It is very flexible and easy to use. Easy to put in background music and narration. I believe they have a trial version.

I copy my photos into PowerPoint. This allows me to add captions, include slides with annotated maps and other information. If you want to share with others, you can also save the file as a PDF. If you are someone who is already proficient in PowerPoint, this is a "no-brainer."

Look at ACDsee - Review your images and save copies into a separate folder. Move them around in the order you want. Then press renumber so they stay in order you want. Then start you slide show. All your images stay in their folders and only copies are in your slide show folder. Fast and easy. reasonable price for the software. I make slide shows all the time and this is the best program I have ever found. It works with thumbnails so it very fast. However the slide show images are full res. Really cool.
