Sometimes my 18 to 300 lens at 18 just is not wide enough. Do I need a different lens?

FWIW - there are times shooting with my 17-50 on my D7100 I wish I had my 11-16 with me, so I take two shots to stitch together as a 2 shot horizontal panorama, with practice you can get what looks like a much wider shot and works out nicely

The Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is a great dx format ultrawide. I use it often on my D7000.

The Nikkor AF-S DX 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED lens ($899.99 retail) offers a 15-36mm field of view on a Nikon D500 camera. 15mm doesn't sound much wider than the 18mm you already have and is not a particularly fast lens. Perhaps other UHH members have a better suggestion. Perhaps a Sigma or Tamron? The Tokina mentioned above might be a faster and more cost effective solution.

Uh, except 18 mm is 24 mm 35 mm equivalent. So almost twice the angle.

Either a focal length wider than 18 (obvious), or learn how to do panoramic stitching, which will give you a more natural look without the extension distortion that accompanies most ultra wide lens images.

This was done with a normal focal length lens (45mm on a full frame camera), using three images, each overlapped 50%

Even though I have a 14mm lens and several zooms that cover 24mm, I rarely find myself going to the wide and ultrawide lenses.

Tokina 11-16mm is very good for a DX camera.

Love that shot and the technique Gene, I find myself seeing panoramic shots everywhere since learning the technique myself!

KOOL!

I also have a D500 and own the Nikkor 10-24mm DX wide angle lens and have been extremely happy with it. I've also rented other Nikkor wide angles and prefer the one I purchased. Images are sharp, focus is pretty fast and it's not to heavy. Distortion in minimal and easily corrected in Adobe Lightroom.
