My 1957 175 prime fell apart in my hands while trying focus; and with this piece in place afterwards, it would not focus. Can I get an OH NO? Still works but you can not touch the lens barrel now while shooting without distortion.

Seems like something important. My guess is a snap ring to hold the glass in place.

That's what I said when "The clock broke while I was just holding it." Of course I was eight years old. LOL

Sorry. I couldn't resist. Da debbil made me do it.

Whenever I take apart something as mechanically complex as a camera or lens for repair, I always document my progress in great detail with a series of sketches and/or photos.

Sounds like an element is wobbly, and thats what holds it in position. It may not go where you think it goes, you may have to take things apart and look for some other way it fits. You will know when you have it right when you feel the urge to kick yourself. That will pass and you may feel a little pride as it goes back together perfectly. It could be you have reversed an element.

Well it was inside the barrel casing at the very back in place when I picked it up but after reassembly and tear-down a second time it would not stay where it was so... Can you imagine that; I got it in a yard sale about 3 years ago for 2 dollars so... I am not crying really I'm not; and yet... Maybe I will try it one more time to redo it I don't know. Yea the thing is there are no signs of wear on the thing!

Thanks for the support guys
