More than one flight on a Herculese. Great airplane, if you can sleep on one of those you can sleep anywhere.

This is one of the most versatile aircraft ever built.
Having flown it on four occasions, I am afraid I
cannot agree with the opening title, its a fabulous
aircraft to fly, not quite a fighter though, but it
does it's job.
Thank you for the link, most interesting.

Now the C-130, in a conversion, serves as an airborne gunship in war zones.

I was working on an American air base back in the 70's, Mildenhall - Suffolk - UK, (during the Vietnam war) they were flying in and out just about all day and night, they are a massive plane when you see them up close, about 90 tons I was told by an airman

I live near the Peoria, IL airport where the 187th Airlift wing of the Illinois Air National Guard is stationed. Those monsters fly over my house at all hours of the day and night. Some of my neighbors are annoyed by the noise they make, but I find it reassuring that the might of our military is on display every day in the sky above my home.

Great attitude.

The Hercules C-130 was my regular mode of transportation shuttling all over the Med as a Navy photographer and aircrewman. I never thought twice about the safety of this fantastically versatile bird. My only complaint was that I usually wound up seated under a compressor pump that dripped condensation on my head.

On one long C-130 flight I had my feet propped up on a crate being carried as cargo and was reading a magazine. The Navy chaplain seated next to me laughed and pointed to the crate my feet were on. He said, "You're very causual about this aren't you." I didn't know what he meant. He pointed to the crate. Inside was a nuclear bomb...
