how about a bridge camera. the major camera makers all have at least one that will fill your bill.

?????

The OP already has a camera and 2 lenses - not to mention that the request is for a tripod.

Did you even read the original post?

I really like the induro tripods. They are quite strong and much cheaper than a gitzo. Whatever you get, I recommend that it have 3 different degrees of leg spread to make it more usable from your chair.

It's unlikely you'll find a better deal than this:

I'm getting back into photography at 68. I live on my social security income so I can't afford the most expensive or the best, but I'm looking for something that can do a good job. Most of my photography has to be accessible by power chair. So I'm not looking for something that is for landscape out in the woods or fields. More like car shows, air show and local events. Since I travel mostly by public transportation or my power chair I need something that's not to large or cumbersome. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Like others, I would recommend a specialized monopod - like my bodypod - pod. Can be used from seated position and adjusts QUICKLY/EASILY from the TOP - also recommend using with my facial stabilizers. - http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-269999-1.html

The monopod suggestions offer a good solution and, probably, the best. I would suggest:

Slik Monopod 350 B&H # SLM350 at B&H for $29.94.

I've used Slik tripods, along with Manfrotto, for over 30-years and find them very durable. My oldest is still in use.

I would second the advice on the monopod. It probably can be wedged or held against some part of the power chair to give it good stability. It would be a lot easier to carry around and might be allowed in places where a tripod would be prohibited.

You may want to check out RAM mounts ( http://www.rammount.com/ ). They make a wide range of mounts for cell phones, cameras, etc. The nice thing is that you can mount a base plate to your chair and then add on a camera mount that is made to take rough usage and maintain stability. I've used this system for mounting a portable GPS and my iPad in a Cessna 172 for bath a yoke mount and dashboard mount. Prices are not bad and you can find these easily on eBay.
Good luck!

Try contacting MTShooter (Carter). He is a very respected member on UHH and owns a camera shop in Montana. I have made several purchases from him and all were just as he said they were. He sells new as well as used camera gear. He also may have some ideas we have not thought of.

If you can, go to local garage/yard sales. I've got several aluminum/plastic tripods that I use for reflectors and such that don't weigh much, each of them for less than $5 each.
Edit: just remember to ck that the qr plate is included, on a couple I had to make one.

Following on AzShooter's idea of a clamp, check out Really Tight Stuff -- they have clamps with ball heads designed for mounting cameras to handrails. Maybe would work on your chair.

I would think that a light weight tripod could easily be knocked over from a chair if you make the wrong move. I would think either a heavy firm tripod or a monopod would work. You can get a Manfrotto #3221 which is a heavy-made tripod for around $50 on craigslist and your camera will be safe. If you think a monopod is the best way to go, look at the ones with legs, but again, something heavier for more stability. I have a Manfrotto bipod that B&H gave me when I bought a Canon years ago, but my hands are shaky so that transmits to the camera.

Big D, Take a look at the ALZO wheelchair camera mount on Amazon. It looks like it may just be what you need. Hope you find something that works for your needs and congratulations on getting into photography and your young age. Good luck and let us know what you settle on and how it works. Thanks
