It begins to feel heavy when you shoot events for 6 hours + with 1500 shots or more. I've handheld the 500F4 before at over 8 lbs just for the lens and that spends me quick. Regardless, you see many here asking for lighter weight for a plethora or reasons whether it's age, illnesses or the just to satisfy GAS. I exercise to keep myself in shape and reduce the fatigue, but I won't give up my gear that I deem as heavy.

Are you sure it's the weight of the camera? Or the way it fits your hand. I am fortunate to have a great camera shop within 30 min. of me. I was looking at the 7D mkII also but the size just didn't feel right so at their recommendation I rented one from them for a week. Well buy the 3rd. day of shooting with it, I realized that the body just didn't fit my hands well. I went back and tried the 80D and have been very happy with it. It feels right in my hand and is very comfortable to use. I know that it only shoots 7fps as opposed to the 10fps but the advantages are only advantages if you use the camera.

7D = 1.9 lb, 7D ll = 2.0 lb, 80d 1.61 lb. Woe on you when the weight of the camera bears down on you.

77D or T7i, both right at about 1.2 lb.

80D, 77D, T7i in order of how close to 7DII in abilities and weight (body only), and all three have the newer 24.2 MP sensor and the 45 point AF system.
The 7DII have dual digic 6 processors and dual memory cards, the 80D has a single digic 6 processor and single memory card, the 77D and T7i have a single digic 7 processor and single memory card.

If you want lighter you have to give up something. If you don't do much action/sports/BIF and don't need weather sealing then the 77D or T7i should be fine.

As to feel in the hand, that is individual. I have small hands and fairly short but wide fingers. I got used to using my 7DII and 6D with battery grips. I picked up and tried an 80D in the shop and it just felt too small, I have the same problem with my daughter's T2i. But I am sure with experience I would adapt and get used to it. When I first put the battery grips on my cameras I had the same problem in the other direction, felt too big. But I kept at it because using long telephotos on birds with a lot of burst shooting uses batteries fast and I needed that doubled battery power.

Try a monopod with a good ball head,that's what I do if I'm shooting all day.A hand grip helps when off the monopod.

I'm sorry, I've only been here for a year and a half so I don't really know who all the trolls are, probably never will, BUT, this cthahn comes off as a real jerk. I know I can say some less than complimentary things from time to time but rarely with malicious intent and when so, only to someone who earned or deserves it.

The logic behind my statement is simple, at least it is to me, I have too many toys. Why would someone who can afford an $11,000 lens, a magnificent object of optical engineering, put said lens on an old, outdated, $200 camera!? Sense it does not make. If I could afford one of those lenses I'd be using it on my 7DII or 5DIV or 5DSR.
I wasn't knocking the OP or the Rebel cameras. Heck, one of my closest friends and shooting buddies uses a T5i, and my dedicated doggie cam, complete with an older 24-105L is an SL1.

Thanks. I think your response is exactly what I needed to hear. Have decided to keep the camera - probably won't take it when traveling, but the picture quality so far has been super. Thanks for your analogy!
