Question. Want to use - Canon EF-S lens on a Canon 5DIII full frame camera. Is there an adapter that's capable of accomplishing this?? The lens is the Canon 10-22mm.

not that I am aware of, even it there was the image would not cover the whole sensor which would have pretty poor results.

That's a whole world of hurt, but it is possible. First you will get vignetting since it isn't designed to deliver an image circle that will cover a full frame sensor. Secondly there are mirror contact issues that could damage both the lens and the camera. Personally I would not do it, however if you are determined: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDfyu_fuOf4

It isn't clear that the replacement baffle is available anymore.

You can pull the plastic out of the end of your lens and replace it with an EF plastic piece so that it will mate with your FF body. But if you do that, you will not be able to use it at 10mm. When you zoom it from about 10-12mm it will hit the mirror in your 5D and could cause damage. It will work, but YOU MUST BE CAREFUL.

If you want to know exactly how to do it, send Wendy2 a PM and she can tell you how she did it and she also has the exact part number. I believe the part costs about $10 but I looked and can't find it. She is a member here but I have not heard from her in a while.

Very good find. I did a search here but they don't have a very good search engine like they used to.

When you've ruined your lens and / or camera, remember you were told this is a poor idea even if possible ...

If you want to do this for cost concerns, why not sell your 10-22 and put the money towards a FF wide-angle. Did you get rid of your other non-full-frame camera? You will probably not get a different image with the FF camera - by the time you crop off the shadows at the edges. I love my 10-22mm lens, but have gone to a FF camera, so I will keep my old set up for a back up, and use it specifically if I need to get some wide angle shots. You might check some of the major stores for a good used wide-angle.

The problem is that EF-S lenses extend farther back into the camera than EF lenses, and the mirror will hit the back of the lens. Look at the back of an EF and an EF-S lens side-by-side and you'll see the difference quite clearly.

Exactly, it feels like giving advice to someone who wants to jump off a cliff. Take a good run up and leap as far out as you can. You don't want to bounce off any rocky outcrops on the way down.

As Andy M. Stewart put it: "It's not the fall, but landing, that alters social standing...."

The attached video shows one way of doing it, but I wouldn't recommend it. The author even indicates why doing this procedure specifically for the 10-22mm lens is a risky idea. You could damage the mirror on your 5D Mark III. In any case the resulting images will vignette badly to varying degrees, depending on focal length, as a result of the smaller image circle of an EFs lens. Proceed at your own risk.

And here is a second approach.

While it is possible to remove and modify a plastic piece from the rear of the 10-22mm so that the lens will fit onto a full frame 5DIII, it's not really worth doing. You'll only be able to use the lens in a limited way... it will vignette very strongly anything other than the least wide settings.

In general, EF-S lenses are designed to only make a smaller image circle... enough to cover a 15x23mm (approx.) APS-C size sensor... not large enough to cover the 24x26mm sensor of a full frame camera.

And, yes, as others have mentioned, some EF-S lenses at some settings can interfere with the larger mirror in a full frame DSLR.... possibly damaging the camera. So modify and use the lens at your own risk!

If still interested in doing so, here's a link to web page explaining how it's done... https://sorenjohansen.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/modifying-the-canon-10-22mm-lens/

But it might be a better idea to just shop for a Canon EF 20mm f2.8, EF 16-35/4L IS USM, EF 16-35/2.8L (three versions), EF 17-40/4L or older EF 17-35/2.8L or EF 20-35/2.8L... or any one of a number of equivalent, full frame-capable lenses from Sigma, Tokina or Tamron. (FYI: full frame Sigma are marked "DG", Tokina "FX" and Tamron "Di" instead of Di II or Di III.)

No! You'll have to "bite the bullet" and get EF (without the "S") lenses. Any adapter would mess with any focal length, depth of field, etc. It's the physics.

OK already,,,,,,,,,,,,, I get it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bad idea. I'll just buy a new lens. I was just curious. Thanks for opinions and advice.

By the way, third party lenses designed specifically for crop bodies use a standard Canon EF mount and will also fit on a full frame body with no mounting issues. Only Canon uses the EFs version of an EF mount. Of course the vignetting issues, due to the smaller image circles of those lenses, will remain the same.
