You're correct, politics aside, the Citizen's United decision, by our once esteemed Supreme Court, is the first step toward an (un)American Oligarchy.
The only way back is for us, the US electorate to elect a Congress that will pass election reform laws. I am not optimistic.
The trouble is: no matter who you are it's expensive trying to get a message to over 300M people! You can't just get up in the morning and talk to your frying pan. Sad, but true.
Sad but true. Unfortunately, the Citizens United case gives corporations and the wealthy the opportunity to donate unlimited dollars to buy politicians, and do it anonymously. If, as the court ruled, money is free speech, the rich have more free speech than the rest of us. Does not seem to meet my standard of fair.

"the rich have more free speech than the rest of us"
Reminds me of a quote I liked from a different post that said, "It's like two wolves and two sheep sitting down to decide what to have for dinner."

Many thanks for your quotable insight. It matches my outlook.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

And let's not forget Unions. This coming election, their contributions are projected to be around 400 million.
Is it possible that The Supremes saw something we missed?
Not an opinion a question.
Yes ... unions will spend millions .... but they represent their membership .... and .... the membership can replace its leadership through the voting process .... Sheldon Adelson, the Koch, Ricketts etc. ... they represent themselves .... and they have the ability to influence the election ..... at least when a union establishs a PAC, you know their objective .... do we know what Sheldon Adelson wants ..... maybe the Koch Brothers think that democracy is only for the rich and want our current system of government replaced by one ... not of the people but by one of the few privilaged ... maybe they think we need a benevolent dictator .... or not benevolent ..... maybe they think our purpose is to provide the means for them to continue to enrich themselves .... maybe they see our masses as a source of cheap labor ...not protected by social welfare ..... maybe they would establish a new American caste system .... maybe they see us a ants to be pissed on .... yes vote Republican ... thats what they want ..
Honestly I don't know what any of these men want. I think our executive branch has a vision that is different from that of the founders too!
Here's a really good new book on the same subject. Regardless of your political leanings, it's outrageous how these uberwealthy folks are funding all of this through tax-exempt foundations--for instance, the Gates foundation alone has more than 3 times the money of all of the conservative foundations combined. None of them should be allowed to be exempt!!!

Look Tax Law is how the Gov tells us what they want us to do!

No tax law is the answer, by gosh. That would unburden us Americans from crop subsidies, tax breaks for oil barons and Wall Street moguls.
Even better, we could shut down those expensive fire departments, emergency ambulances, flood control districts, the armed forces, trips into outer space. Then also we could stop the silly folks who call for sensible use of environmental resources in the hope of saving our ecosphere. Teddy Roosevelt to the contrary notwithstanding.
Sinscerely,
Martin
