Point & Shoot w/ viewfinder

I need to buy an un-expensive point and shoot camera with a viewfinder for my girlfriend. I would actually like to get her a Canon G12, (or maybe subconciously I want to be myself one ?), and the g12 has a viewfinder, but she might not like it since it is an advanced camera, and she is not into photography like I am and she may not like it. She is scared of my DSLR, and besides she likes to spend time with her girlfriends and needs on for herself. Righ now she has some ancient digital thing, which we have used for three years and it takes great snapshots, and she is used to the viewfinder it has. The back screen wasn't working when I met her and it still doesn't.

The only other one I have found besides the G12 and Nikon P7000 that has a viewfinder is the Canon A1200 and I'm not real impressed with it. It's on the bargain side of things.

Does anybody know of a decent point and shoot with a viewfinder between $100 and $500?

I had the same problem a couple of years back. I bought the Canon 590. It's an 8 MP camera and does a good job plus it has both a 3.5 screen and a ttl view finder.

I have two cameras, q Fuji Z70 and an Olympus S5010. they are easy to use, and have a low learning curve and take good photos.

unfortunately viewfinders on point and shoots are becoming as rare as manual transmissions on sedans. Camera mackers feel most point and shooters are snapshot people who don't use the viewfinder. not true, but tell that to the marketing peoplee. look at the new elec viewfnder inter changable lens catagory, or even the 4/3rds sytems optical viewfinders are starting to be phased out due to the mirror and the video taking capability being built in to all the new cameras. it slices it dices it takes beutifal videos of you making jullian fries, new from ronco its the swiss army camera. c

check with popphoto.com the website to popular photography magazine. they have a buyers guide that will let you acsses all their lab reports and reviews for cameras and lenses. good luck

If your girlfriend is scared of your DSLR, she definitely would run from the G12. With all of its gears, knobs, and switches, the very thing that attracted me to it. :) And in the easy auto mode, it leaves some to be desired, just as the S90 does. These cameras were really never meant, to be used in auto I really don't think

Unfortunately any camera you find with a viewfinder, is going to be on the economy end of things. There are a few, but right now I cant even think of any.
