Yeah, I just ordered a Nikon refurbished D610 from Cameta. Only had 11 clicks on it. Has the Nikon 90 day warranty plus a free extension of a warranty from Cameta for the balance of the first year. I have previously ordered refurbished Olympus mirrorless cameras from them. And I got the Ebates cash for the purchase plus I ordered from their eBay store & got 10% eBay bucks from eBay as well.... Won all around.

Yes it does. I have made several purchases from both of them, but the thing that tipped me in the direction of Cameta, is that they belong to a website called EBates. When you join EBates, and sign on, then go to Cameta from there, you will receive Cash Back, in the form of a rebate check, sometimes as much as 3 to 5 percent of the amount of the purchase you make from Cameta, from EBates.

Nikon USA wouldn't do a refurb on a gray market product...The D610 I bought as a refurb from Cameta had a USA serial number & Nikon USA would not have included a refurb warranty on it either had it originally been a Gray Market camera.

Its imperative to determine who did the refurbishing, AND - you must determine if these were grey market cameras !!

A grey market camera always seems to have a stigma among camera buffs.

What if you buy a refurbished camera that was grey market, and then in a few years you want to sell it, and someone checks a serial number and does not want to pay you because it was grey market and was not originally warrantied by the camera company. Therefore, they may think that if the camera had problems id did not have original manufacturer repairs - who knows where the repairs were made, and whether they even used original parts. For example - so many parts are easily reproducible - like the mirror. Its not rocket science to replace the mirror glass. Maybe the mirror movement device is a bit of interesting technology, but if a mirror was defective - anyone could replace it with any mirror.
Dont take the risk of buying a camera that may have been at one time a grey market camera. Too much risk with those products !
Good luck with this complex decision !
Its imperative to determine who did the refurbishi... (show quote)

I have dealt with both companies with no problems.
Both are selling a refurbished Nikon D5300 for $399, no tax, no shipping cost.
Cameta offers 1 year warranty; Adorama a 90 day warranty.

Doesn't it make sense to go with Cameta?
Thanks

The 90 day warranty is a Nikon Warranty for their refurbished items. Cameta is giving you those extra 9 months. They are gambling that the camera will last for at least one year. It's a sales pitch. And there is nothing at all wrong with that. It sells for customers. Who wouldn't want an extra 9 months on a warranty? Just make sure it comes in the authentic Nikon Refurbished Box.

My first question would be: Who did the refurbishing? If the answer is the same for both cameras then going with Cameta would seem to be a no-brainer, don't you think? Otherwise, my only concern would be the quality of the refurbishment.

When I purchased from Cameta my Nikon had a 90 day Nikon warranty and a 1 year extension from Cameta.

Me! Although I have never dealt with third party providers on camera gear, I have with other products. It usually isn't much of a warranty at all. Not worth the hassle. It is a selling point, and in this case it worked. It made you choose them over two other stores (your choice by the way, and not altogether a bad one.) You probably will never have to use the extended warranty (at the least let's hope so) mostly because things that go wrong, go wrong within 30 days of purchase.

As a Nikon owner of camera gear, I have yet to use the one year warranty on any Nikon items. All my problems came after the warranty period. Usually a few years after. When I discovered one of my point and shoot Nikon cameras was not worth repairing, I just bought a brand new one with another one year warranty. That one year warranty has now expired. Camera is still working though. Perhaps I'm just lucky. I guess.

Nothing WRONG with either. I have purchased cameras from both. However, Cameta has given me great, personalized service, on my last four camera purchases, all Nikon refurbs (Two as gifts to others). They have gone out of their way to make me happy.

But Adorama has not made a mis-step either. I will go Cameta for my next camera. (I'm trying to set up my girlfriend to photograph dogs. She has both an excellent eye and is a dog trainer, so knows their psychology.)

I like Cameta Camera. Have purchased 2 camera bodies and 2 lenses from them. Prices on Canon and Nikon (USA) gear appears to be fair traded. Their service, support and knowledge is excellent...Bought a used Tamron lens from them that was stated by them as MINT. I could not tell the difference between that a a new lens. Lens came with a 30 day no questions asked return if I didn't like it plus a 6 month warranty should anything go wrong. Cameta is my go to place for all my camera gear. Enzo is my go to guy there...They sell no gray market gear to my knowledge...Believe me I have registered everything with Canon, Sigma and Tamron and all was good...If you're ever in the NYC area stop on Long Island to check them out, that's how I got started with them while in New York City catching a Yankees, Mets series...

Given two reputable authorized dealers with similarly priced merchandise, why would any reasonable person patronize the one with the shortest warranty? That would be just dumb.
