I am going to visit Yosemite in the last week of May. I'll be staying at Bass Lake for 3-4 days. It is my first trip to the park and would like suggestions for photo sights to WOW. Thanx, Irve
So many. How on earth to name them all! When I visited, on the first day a friend took me around the "tourist" drive to see all the sights. Not much for wonderful pictures but it did allow me to see the sights and decide where I wanted to concentrate. We spent an entire day in the valley the following day. I spent the rest of the week doing some hikes and catching waterfalls. My last day they had opened the Tioga Road, so I was able to drive it as I left the area. Lots of photo opps along it. But be sure to take a coat. It's cold up there!
Be sure to visit Glacier Point (it will be shown on the map of the park) to get a closeup of Half Dome.
I worked in Yosemite one summer and have been back several times. Glacier Point is a must. Don't plan on driving in the park. Other than walking, the shuttle is your transportation. It gets very crowded. Get up early & stay late for the best light. Look at some photographs by Ansel Adams for ideas. An easy hike is to Mirror Lake. I carried postcards of AA's photographs because I wanted "then" and "now" views. Half Dome has a great view but it's an 8.5 mile hike from the valley floor. The Merced River was a trickle the last time I was there--but N Cal has had a lot of rain recently.
You will drive Highway 41 from Bass Lake to Yosemite NP. You will pass through a rock tunnel, just as you enter the park. Immediately STOP at 'Tunnel View' parking lot for your first view of the valley. Early morning light illuminated El Capitan. If you depart the park in the late afternoon via Highway 41, stop again at Tunnel View to see Bridal Vail Falls illuminated by setting sun.

As a member of AAA I simply call them and they tell me everything I need to know. There is also the web site for national parks, you look up the park you want to visit, in this case Yosemite National Park. The web site has all kinds of useful information along with telephone numbers. You can actually (I know you will find this hard to believe) talk to someone on the phone who will be happy to answer all your questions. Isn't that nice, that you can actually do some work and find out answers on your own. What a novel concept.

Bill...I think he's doing that but using UHH as a source. C'mon, now. Actually, your AAA tip is a great reply to the O.P.'s question, so thanks!!. But, isn't that what UHH is for, an informational exchange? Have some coffee, Bill, get the grumps out!!
Irve, I notice you've been a member about as long as I have (2011) but have posted only a few times. I hope that you'll join us more often. Enjoy your trip to Yosemite. I look forward to seeing you post some photos of your trip.
Of all the places my eyes have seen in my travels through North America, Yosemite is in the top 5 I'd like to return to.

Check with the park rangers re snow on the pass. Went Memorial Day and There was still 56' of snow on the pass, going in off Hwy 395.
Mist Trail and the Cable route up the backside of Half Dome is a must. I still have a ton of big wall climbing slides from the Valley to scan. Spending numerous days lashed to the side of El Cap & Half Dome, affords one quite a unique perspective of the Valley.
