Quick run to Vegas up 15 to 80 back home. All in three weeks. The went to Arizona hit many of the national parks including petrified Forest, painted desert, arches, monument valley, and Grand canyon in two weeks first trip 11,000 miles second 7400 miles and I was alone. Have someone else drive so you can stick your camera out and snap

On your way home, stop off at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, then continue on to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Reef National Park, Arches National Park after a visit to the Four Corners area to see Monument Valley. All of the stops listed above are in Utah and can be done with a little meandering off of the Interstate system and well worth the time and effort.

Mt Rainier NP is a must see if you are going to be that close, however that early in the season if will still be snow covered at Paradise and the prime flower trails will not be open. It's still a very rewarding, and probably wet, visit. Don't miss Olympic NP (Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc Falls, Hoh Rain Forest, the wilderness coast) after your leave Seattle. Also highly recommend taking the Black Ball ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria B.C. for a day or two to see the town and Butchart Gardens.

Not a lot to see on the WA coast after you leave the Olympics, but plan to take it slow on the northern Oregon coast (Cannon Beach and the next 75 miles south) and definitely stop at Bandon (probably the best place on the OR coast, and don't miss the Coastal Mist chocolate shop) and lots of stops south of Bandon.

Keep going to the Redwoods just across the state line in CA.

A major bridge connecting Carmel to LA along HWY 1 is completely out. It is unlikely you will be able to go from SF to LA via 1 for months. Thay are predicting it could take a year to fix it. Keep checking for updates on Big Sur to be sure. It's gorgeous, but this may not be the best year to visit!

You are correct but when using my phone not all replays are visible. Have fun on your trip. Before crossing Golden Gate Bridge, turn right to Marin Headlands! Amazing views!

Not enough time. Also important to know: 101 does not hug the coast in parts of Washington and Oregon. I would highly recommend visiting Olympic Natl Park Wonderful hiking opportunities and the only true rain forest in the lower 48.

The Safari Park of the San Diego Zoo is several miles East of Escondido off the I-15. Great place to visit. Takes just about all day. Between the two places, though, makes all the other zoos in the U.S. look poor. Check maps and your GPS. Enjoy your trip!

June 24 I have a wedding to attend near ASPEN, CO. Leaving the JUNE 17 and driving the entire trip. Stopping at 2 locations in MO. to visit cousins. After the wedding we will be driving to Seattle, WA. and then heading south and hugging the coast in WA and OR, eventually ending up on the Pacific Coast Highway in California. We will take that to LA and then head East to Las Vegas. Then we will head to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge and after that journey on home. We plan on being gone for about 4 weeks and stopping at SOME of the sites along the way on the west coast and other locations while heading East.

My question is, without stopping at ALL the wonderful sites along the way can we do it in 4 weeks?

I know there will be a lot of suggestions but how about some keys locations to visit?

Thanks.

From my traveling experience, I would say, "Yes, 4 weeks is enough to get quite a few of the best of the sights seen and photographed." Late June will give you quite a bit of fog along the coast if it is hot in the inland valleys. I lived in Eureka and on the Monterey Bay for a number of years, keep that on mind. There probably will be quite a bit of highway maintenance going on in the summertime, too. Lots to keep in mind for a journey like this. I'd like to do the same thing some time, but my wife can't get away from her work more than 9 or 10 days at a time. Enjoy yourbtrip!

Go to a web site called roadtrippers.com and you will be able to map out your route and add the attractions you do not want to miss. It is a great site for planning a road trip.

Consider visiting Rocky Mountain National Park when you are on your way to the Aspen area. I'd suggest going though Estes Park and then over Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. From Grand Lake take RT 34 South to RT 40 West to Rt 9 South which will take you to I-70 in Silverthorn. RMNP is not to be missed and Trail Ridge Road will take you well above timberline and has some great vistas. If it is early or late in the day you are likely to see Elk. Moose tend to hang out at lower elevations on the West side of the park.

Irene, no disrespect, but the OP is coming from the east coast, why would you recommend a zoo? There are zoos all over. Your state is so very beautiful, who would want to see prisoned animals? Would you suggest to a New Yorker to make sure to take a cab when visiting D.C.?

Respectfully disagree. My wife is native to San Diego, and we have to go to the zoo every visit. It is quite wonderful.

I would recommend closing your eyes and driving through LA, then arriving in San Diego. Then wander up the north county, through the mountains via Julian, drop down into Palm Desert. Joshua Tree NP is worth an entire day; the higher elevations won't be nearly as hot. Then north from there to Barstow. Can I convince you to take a couple of days detour, go up to Lone Pine, take in the Alabama Hills (lots of movies had scenes shot there, westerns, Hulk, etc.). Depending on your tolerance for heat, I would avoid Death Valley. It will probably be ~120F by July, which is too bad, it's an incredible place. So go north to Bishop, then route 6 to 95, back south to Vegas. The east side of the Sierras is just spectacular.
