What is the main difference between a mirrorless full frame vs a full frame besides the mirror and the lens mounts? Basically let us compare a Sony a99m2 vs a Sony 7rll camera. Which would you purchase? My brother has a mirrorless full frame 7rll and he thinks his is better than my full frame Sony a99m2. How do the lens match up between the two. There rates of megapixels are both the same on the cameras. I cannot notice anything when we take the same ohotos of an object. The only thing is the price between them that is all. Am l right?

Some comparison sites.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

Full frame is bigger than cropped and costs more.

It is what comes out of the camera that is important. Too many that call them selves photographers have this dumb idea stuck in their heads that a more expensive camera will take better pictures. It will never happen. Just something to brag about and think they are better. Results tell the story.

Did you give him an answer?
He asked for not which to choose. He asked for us to tell him whether his camera is better or his brother's. It's a bad question to ask others about how good your camera is. Everyone think his or her camera is best. I said believe me because this can be a 10 pages thread and yet when you tally up the Yay and the Nay you still won't have a definite answer as whether which of the camera is better.

My next camera is hopefully going to be the a99ii because I'd rather use my lenses as they are rather than buying an extra adapter. How do you like the camera? I'm also considering the a77ii as an alternate if not a bridge improvement until I get enough money.

Remember when shooting with most Marilyn's cameras all frames are not in focus because the auto focus only works for the first several frames. So if you or she will be 40 frame shop the first 10 frames may be the only ones that are that are using autofocus

Lens register distance. That's the term for the variation in difference that requires a change in the mount from a DSLR with a mirror and the lack of a mirror in the "mirrorless" camera's.

Because the lens can be mounted closer to the sensor, the mount can be smaller, reducing the amount of glass needed in the len, thus a lighter and less expensive lens overall. Adaptors to use older legacy lenses (larger) are the devices used to change the lens register distance.

Canon and Nikon have both been reluctant and are just now beginning to take the "mirrorless" market seriously because of their desire NOT to create a whole new lens inventory. Just now are they coming out with serious offerings, but Canon still tried to cross into that territory using their standard EOS mount, leaving the weight factor considerably above most other mirrorless offering. Now they and Nikon are just beginning to come out with mirrorless lenses.

Panasonic and Olympus with their 4/3 sensors were naturally positioned to go with a lesser lens register distance.
that is why both of those manufacturers have a huge lead in lens inventory. So much more than any other camera maker of interchangeable lens mirrorless products.

I offer no opinion about "better" but I discovered when using the LA-EA3 adapter for A mount lenses on an a7R2 that the DMF function is disabled. Other than that I thought the functionality was just fine. Just be aware that even though it's a Sony adapter, it is not perfect.

I prefer mirrorless over an SLR because I am 61 years old and can no longer see the external dials on a camera without glasses. With a mirrorless I can see all of the information I need though the viewfinder before I take a shot. The Histogram, the exact exposure , manual focus magnification, image replay ect. And I no longer have to use a loop to see the LCD screen.
