Hi,
I have been following UHH for months and finally decided to join the group.
I have to say...you people are amazing! I have been shooting for 40 years and learn something new every single day.
What a fabulous forum for obtaining advice and knowledge!
Thank you all for sharing so graciously...
Joel
Welcome Joel,
What part of the world are you from and what do you like to shoot? I'm in Washington state and like to shoot animals and scenery. I wish I was better at shooting people!
Bill
Hi Bill,
I mostly shoot portraits, models who want to put together a portfolio, and newborns.
I'm using a D700 mostly with a Nikkor 50 1.8..

I would be lost trying to do either. I've been trying to learn about studio lighting by reading. At some point I should buy some sort of lighting and try to learn by doing. The only willing model I have is my wife's dog. Everyone else in the family seems to hate looking as a lens. I've offered to hire my granddaughters as models and am beginning to make progress. As teens in constant need of cash, they may compromise!
I started off by doing young women that I work with. They constantly post selfies on Facebook and Instagram so I approached them. Started off with one speedlight and progressed from there.
It is my creative outlet. I'm nuts though, I even love the sound of the shutter..

There is a another dimension beyond that which is known to humans. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between Zone 0 and Zone 9, between film and digital and it lies between the pit of underexposure and the summit of overexposure, the dignity of monochrome and the gaiety of color. This is the dimension of photography. It is an area which we call the Hedgehog Zone. Welcome.
For a moment, I thought Rod Serling was responding. Very very well said..,
