I'd like to hear how the call to B&H works out. Life is too short to have to worry about dust spots in new lenses, although I doubt it will do much harm. Still, buying new means never having to have these worries.

When you buy a NEW lens, you expect perfection in every detail. Especially with something that costs over $500.00. My point is, if a new, never used Tamron lens has dust on the inside, what does that say about the environment in which it was manufactured? What does it say about the quality of inspections, lens construction, level of quality in the components of the lens? My impression would not be favorable if I were buying a new lens that had dust inside. That's why all my lenses are OME. I would trust nothing less.

If it is brand new, call B&H when they open again and speak to customer service if you are concerned. I am sure they will help you out. The are a reputable company.

Definitely, return it. It may mean that the lens has a defect in its construction and will cause serious problems later. Either it slipped through quality control with it trapped inside or got in later. If it got in later, more will come. If it slipped through quality control Tamron needs to know this to correct it.

If you want to keep something that has a problem, that is up to you. Why does everyone come to this site and ask question that should be directed at B&H? It seems that everyone lately has never learned how to think for themselves, and has to ask someone else to do their thinking for them.

B&H, among severalr others stands behind their products and has a very good return policy. Call and they will answer. They are closed Saturdays, so you can call today. You will be startled with their great customer service. I have been a customer for over 20years and never a problem with them, Hunts, Adorama or other reputable sellers.

Warning don't try this if your faint of heart.. Take a flash light while in the dark and shin into your new lens. You will see more than one dust particle. Get use to it especially if you actually use your lens out in the field. You should see the inside of ALLLLLL my lens. Think about it, not one single lens is water proof. When you zoom in and out your lens breathes pulling Dusty air in. If water can get in don't you think Dust can????? It's just Normal to have dust in your lens, Period.....

I use and like Tamron products. The service department is great, and have a turn around of only 3 days. You can take advantage of the Tamron 6 year warranty with that dust spot, along with adding your specific camera body specs, a full cleaning and calibration. I'm sure there will be some other manufacturing debris too. All the elements will be checked for alignment, and focusing. All this I'd chalk up to preventive maintenance.
