How do you "refurbish" a CF card?

Makes sense, I guess: It's a generic term like dealers selling certified non-new cars. Goods are identified as "refurbished" to differentiate it from "used". The CF card may have had damaged packaging, returned for reasons other than a defect, a store demo, and is tested to assure conformance to factory specifications then cleaned up and sold as such.

Copied from "Photo.Net",seems right...

I have not. 2 thoughts. 1; I would say getting a refurbished card gives you a better chance of getting a good one straight from the package. it is scrutinized much more than one on an assembly line. 2; something in me still wouldn't trust it as much long term. I guess it depends what you are shooting and how important/replaceable the shots are.

That sounds about right. It's not a used card that's been kicking around for years.

With so many counterfeit memory cards out there, I simply can see no reason not to buy new ones from KNOWN sellers.
These cards are such a tinny expense in your imaging world that there really is no excuse for buying a non-servicable item to save money.
If on the other hand you are simply curious, then using a bad card will not risk damage to your camera electronics . . .just your wallet.

The basic question is why try to save money on such a small expense and risk the loss of any of your or images?

I am not pleased with the prices of XQD cards, but I don't think the money saved will be a comfort to me after purchasing a nice camera. My apprehension may be unfounded, but why increase my chances of having an issue and being unhappy?

I've never heard of refurbished cards, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Though I wonder how the refurbishing is done.

Do you think that is a proper analogy?

BTW,that was a quote of somebody else's opinion and I named my source.

I also made a subsequent post regarding my apprehension with respect to XQD cards that I need.
