This happened a few years ago when I traded my Maxima in for a new Honda Accord. We had come to final agreement on the net purchase price after trade in. The salesman handed me the contract and there was a $550 "customer service fee" added. I handed the contract back, stood up and ask for the keys to my Maxima. He asked why. I said I'm leaving. He asked why. I said that is not the price we agreed on. He went and got my Maxima keys and I walked out. He followed me outside and then asked what it would take to close the deal. I said, "Remove the customer service fee plus an additional $500 and I will sign the contract. He did it. Go figure!

When we bought our "95 Eagle Talon AWD Turbo the Chrysler Dealer slipped one in on us- the price could "float" from the day of order until the day of manufacture. It added $575 to the cost of the vehicle. If I'd seen it I would have crossed it out of the contract. This was pure BS!The sale price should have been locked in when the contract was signed! And they wonder why we hate car dealers?

One day we will all buy our cars via internet. Skip the cost of fancy showrooms. Tesla already does this.

You get a price for the car, but then the dealer adds lots of other costs - maybe more than he should. We had a local Toyota dealer that was adding thousands to the invoices of cars for years. He was caught, paid a fine, and is still in business.

Right. And it has been an uphill battle in every state. I see Teslas almost every time I drive somewhere now.

I remember, many years ago when I lived in a State that had a "Personal Property" tax... We had to list, and pay a tax on EVERYTHING we owned... furniture, books, tools, cameras, records (They were vinyl records back then), Radio & TV's, etc., etc.

It became known as the "Liar's Tax". I think maybe 10% of the people actually listed EVERYTHING.

About a year after I moved away from that State, I received a Personal Property" tax bill from them, for over $200. I sent them a PENNY, along with a note telling them where they could stuff it. I never heard back.

I understand they no longer have that ridiculous tax, and replaced it with a sales tax.

Indiana had a personal property tax sometime in the past, but I don't remember their being very effective at collecting it. They eventually added a tax on vehicles {actually seems to be based on approximate vehicle value}, collected as part of vehicle registration, plus additional sales tax. We currently have a ten-year-old Saturn and a five-year-old Ford Fiesta, and the total tax on them this past year was $77 - in other words, nothing to get upset about.

6% sales tax in Maryland. If you move to the state from another, MD license registration comes with the same
