Does anybody have an easy way to remove duplicate photos in my pictures. Unfortunately backed up 2x and now running out of HD space.

no easy way, sort by name or date and delete duplicates. If you are running out of hard drive space, buy an external drive to store your photos on and save the space on your internal drives.
PC or Mac? On my Mac I use a program called 'Twins' by Rocky Sand Studio.
Delete them all from their backup folder and backup again to an external drive.
It seems that you backed up files on the same hard drive as the originals. These are not backups. They are merely copies. If the HD dies, they die with it. Backups should be done to a completely separate drive. That said, here's a duplicate file finder program from a very reputable company. It's for a Windoze system.

https://www.howtogeek.com/201007/how-to-find-and-remove-duplicate-files-on-mac-os-x/I am familiar with Mac as I use one for photo editing. However, I've never had to hunt duplicates on this system.

Auslogics duplicate file finder:
https://www.auslogics.com/en/software/duplicate-file-finder/Run it on folders, cards, drives, whole drives.
Read VERY carefully how it make duplicate comparison. Be sure you understand how it chooses dupes.
Be sure how you pick the dupes to delete or remove.
I've been using the progam for a few years. It's best feature is it locates dupes by a number of factors.
Auslogics has many other utility programs. I consider it "trusted". It's a Microsoft Partner Gold application developer.
And remember one thing, where the human condition is involved, it's always possible to EFF UP!!

Remember the opening theme to Dragnet? HD failure is something that unfortunately, had to be experienced to be believed.

If your using Lightroom....you might try this.

ACDsee ultimate 10 will sort for exact duplicates. But it is time consuming to remove the correct one. Our daughter would make folders with copes for printing and then not remove the copies. I have found that sometimes I have four copies of the same photo.
Just be careful. I did this on my computer not realizing that I had many photos with the exact same file name. Apparently my nikon was set such that after I formatted my storage Card, it started labeling the images at the original starting point! The same thing happened with images transferred in from an iPhone. Luckily I caught it in time and learned my lesson!
