Charlestown SC
Am going to Charleston later this month with wife and adult daughter. This will be my daughter's first visit. Plan to go to Market, Fort Sumter, Angel Tree, Citadel, and Patriot's Point. Will eat at Fleet Landing, Blossom, and Hanks. Open for suggestions on both subjects.

Also, check out the trolley routes. When I was there you could park at the visitors center,
and get to a lot of places on one of the free trollies.
The food, the food, drool.
82 Queen for brunch. On Queen st. really neat, right across from a public parking lot .
Magnolias
SNOB (Slightly North of Broadway) They have a chocolate mocha pie/cake that I would rate as my #1 favorite dessert, ever. (and I'm no chocoholic)
Poe's on Mt. Pleasant for lunch
Adventurous? Martha Lou's , saw it featured on Andrew Zimmern's Charleston show. A shack w/ cooked to order Southern Soul food. Look it up online.
Thanks for your reply. Can't remember if we made the visitor center in Charleston or Savannah. Might check out Hymans as we are staying at Days Inn on Meeting
Gilligan's Seafood Family run business 4 locations Great food and you won't be able to eat it all
Harvest Moon south on 17 about 10-12 miles from Charleston, my favorite place to eat great food 20-25 veggies daily
I lived there for 3 years
Middleton plantation is an amazing place, beautiful gardens and water views. Boone Hall is another if you are interested in great landscapes. Brown Dog Deli at 40 broad st. Is a must, they only serve lunch, but you would not be disappointed.

Make sure you have she crab soup!
I am from Charleston and live here. I can give you a few ideas. For eating, to each his own but Hymans would not be on my list. Your ideas are fine. If you want excellent steaks, try Grille 225 or Halls. For great seafood, The Wreck in Mt Pleasant. For visiting, in addition to your ideas, maybe the SC Aquarium which is right downtown. I love to shoot at Waterfront Park at sunrise. Charleston is a great walking city in the downtown area. You might consider signing up for a walking tour. They have them both daytime and nighttime. In addition to Middleton Garden mentioned elsewhere, you might consider Magnolia Gardens which also has a separate swamp area where you are almost certain to see gators and at this time of year, will likely see some nesting Great Blue Herons and possibly Egrets. If you get over in Mt Pleasant, a walk out the Shem Creek 1,000 ft walk over the marsh is fun and interesting. It is only a short distance from Patriots Point.

On the fort Sumter Ferry they tell you to take the next ferry back, but the hour between return trips doesn't really give you enough time to see the entire fort especially if you take time to compose your photo shots. Unless the "next ferry' is the last one for the day, you'll enjoy the visit more with more time; think about taking the second return trip.
Even if it is a warm day, take a windbreaker type jacket; the fort is open to strong winds blowing into the harbor!
Enjoy the trip.

I think Patriots Point was my favorite.I would skip Magnolia unless flowers are in bloom. Loved Fleet restaurant. They had a really great museum. I agree about Fort Sumter about rushing you.
If you like walking or biking and wildlife, take the ferry over to Bull's Island. Short ferry ride to a really nice island with no motorized traffic.

I am a chocoholic, so SNOB has been pencilled in. Martha Lou's sounds like a place in our town. Being a Mississipian, I have grown up on this food.
